Booster MPS
New EP from Aoife O'Donovan out this week, Bullfrogs Croon. The main suite of three songs are based on a poem that she was commissioned to translate into song. Link to comment

One of few CDs I still have at home even I do not have CD player for years now. I’d throw two other performances in the mix. A legendary classic and a new one (the latter somewhat close in spirit to Argerich). Khatia's (really good) playing also IMO is clearly inspired by the fabulous Argerich performance. cambridgehank
I heard this album reviewed on a podcast, and thought I'd try it. Very disappointed. AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow Considering the talent involved in this quartet set (trumpeter Kenny Wheeler, altoist Lee Konitz, guitarist Bill Frisell and bassist Dave Holland), the music on this CD is a bit of a disappointment. The nine Wheeler originals are moody, wandering and somewhat forgettable, the interplay between the trumpeter and Konitz fails to light any real sparks, and Frisell sounds surprisingly restrained and laidback. Although pleasant, this is not the superb collaboration that one would expect from innovative musicians of this caliber. orresearch 1 Link to comment
Popular Post austinpop
To make up for missing the Covid-19-cancelled performance of Haydn's Creation by the Seattle Symphony we were scheduled to see later this month, tonight we watched this landmark performance of the same piece on Berlin Philharmonic's Digital Concert Hall: https://www.digitalconcerthall.com/en/concert/51026 It's an outstanding performance, and I highly recommend it. Also watch the interview with Sir Simon Rattle. Due to a cancellation by their originally-booked soprano Genia Kühmeir, the Philharmonic took a risk and tapped the 25-year old rising star Elsa Dreisig. She had never heard the piece, but learned it on her iPad on the plane journey to Berlin! She delivers an amazing performance, along with veterans Florian Boesch and Mark Padmore. BTW - The Digital Concert Hall is free for the rest of the season. Just redeem the code that pops up when you register. Sound quality is very good. ronfint
This is probably my favorite album of the last few years. Shake Stew is joined by guest Shabaka Hutchings. I saw them live at the North Sea Jazz Fest last year, and in a festival full of top performers, Shake Stew's performance was by far my favorite. Solstice380 1 Link to comment
