Note how he makes this corporate centric format somehow democratic, continues the lie that it has all those smaller file sizes needed for streaming, and calls it "true" hi-res. So, was that piece an advertorial? Check out the TAS email that was just sent. Sponsored by MQA. Just put it on the front cover and be done. TAS=The Advertising Supplement Must be the last gasp before TAS goes under, or they wouldn't be so obvious, would they? It's certainly not sustainable, as reputable manufacturers wouldn't want to be tainted by suspicion that they're all involved in 'pay to play.' This is one case where I'd disagree with the old saying "there's no such thing as bad publicity." crenca, mansr, MikeyFresh and 1 other 3 1 请教别人一次是5分钟的傻子,从不请教别人是一辈子的傻子 Link to comment
Popular Post Samuel T Cogley
I just read that Harley piece. It reeks of desperation. I'm sincerely shocked by how vested Harley is in MQA. His piece is so completely over the top, so in lockstep with Stuart and so dismissive of the critics. I mean, he's just straight up trolling the critics: Quote Many of the early adopters were computer geeks who viewed their capability as elevating them above the great unwashed masses. Plus, it was comforting to them to see very high bit rates and massive file sizes because of the prevailing assumption that more bits equal better sound. Absent a deeper understanding of what’s important and what isn’t in digital audio, file size became a proxy for resolution. To me, Harley has become a proxy for Stuart and this is Bob's middle finger to all the critics. When @crenca talks about the Confidence Game, I never imagined it would be this brazen. So, so glad I ditched Tidal. Now I think I'm going to sell all my iFI gear 😡 gdpr, MikeyFresh and crenca 2 1 Link to comment

Popular Post crenca
That Robert Harley piece is a good example of the Audiophile Confidence Game. Notice how he mixes truth (such as {recorded quality} music trumps format) with falsehood (all the claims around MQA, especially the ease of use and democratization). He smartly and with no small amount of truth criticizes a false format focus so that he can sell you a certain format, one that just happens to be the least "democratic" of them all. But all this is water under the bridge. We all already understand that TAS, Stereophile, and most of the rest are co-conspirators with Bob Stuart. Does not matter why (are they compensated directly or indirectly, or just 'true believers' and trade promoters or...), it's the end result that counts. StephenJK
I scanned the article, or advertisement. I think the key words are “You simply stream MQA and get better sound no matter what the distribution platform or playback device.” That’s a bold statement and obviously intended to be the answer to that supposed quest for better sound. Some of us have proposed that MQA was a solution to a bandwith broadcast limitation that no longer exists, that “a buck short and a day late” solution. If now the focus is going to be on the MQA enhanced promise of “perfect sound forever” I think they need to be reminded that if you’re listening with earbuds you’ve already decided that you’re happy with you already have, and aren’t desperately looking for a solution. in other words, the horse is already out of the barn. Slam the door as hard as you want. MikeyFresh 1 Link to comment
