FYI - here's yet another affordable choice that's worth the mod

Before we forget to mention it: the Meraki MS220-8P can be bought 2nd hand for around 100 euro. No license is needed to use it. Login is via the serial number on the back of the switch. Of course, you can’t use the complete feature set – that requires the cloud subscription – but the basics just work. And that will be enough in many cases.

As for my statement that "Nvidia Pascal GPU as a minimum and the Volta/Turing GPUs being better still," I should have given credit where it's due as this comes from Jussi.

They're also good for GPUDirect RDMA / GPUDirect Storage

https://github.com/NVIDIA/gdrcopy

https://developer.nvidia.com/blog/gpudirect-storage/

https://docs.nvidia.com/cuda/gpudirect-rdma/index.html

Now that even Comet Lake (10th Gen Intel Core) could support Optane Persistent Memory, what's your view on that when compared to the "regular" Optane storage connected via PCIe / NVMe?

I found that ES (engineering sample) version of the 1st Gen Optane DCPMM would actually cost about $1 / GB so pricing ain't such a biggie anymore

Regarding that 25MHz clock, these Californians might be able to acquire (MOQ = 1) the same OCXO that's found on JCAT USB Card XE

Afraid I don’t have any pictures or description of how Sean attached the cable. Essentially I dropped off a unit with complete SMPS and mains plug pins removed and picked up a sealed unit with captive DC cable and 5V DC3 supply.

Let’s also look at pricing...a standard RE650 costs in the region of £120. The ‘customised’ or ‘modified off-the-shelf’ unit costs around £150 and several hours to modify, but that’s not the end. Add the improved PS that the extender uses, the better power cord, the anti-vibration rack for the PS and you come up to around £1220 all in.  So now, we’re comparing a £120 extender with a £1220 customised unit.....

Maybe adding another €1,250 with Pink Faun Ultra OCXO wouldn't be such a bad idea? Lots of pictures could be found here

• The user can utilize the RJ45 connector with integrated LED components if the product working environment is
not very noisy.
• If the designed product works inside an electrically noisy outside environment, it is not recommended to use RJ45
with integrated LED. This is because the outside interference signal or voltage is coupled to the LED circuit
through the line side of RJ45 due to the LED circuit directly connected to chip and system power/ground. It is better to use independent LED components.
• If the user needs to utilize the RJ45 with an integrated LED circuit in a noisy environment, consider adding TVS
diodes to protect the chip.

According to Paul the SR4 has an output impedance of <3 milliohms from DC to 100kHz but when you combine the impedance of the DC cable and the barrel connector (which are horribly high impedance), then the output impedance of both sources are roughly the same

While hardwiring is best, it's just impractical for so many reasons.

Besides those Jaeger connectors from Hummel AG, have you ever found anything else that's superior to GX16 or similar ones?

Most likely this is one of the best male connectors available in terms of IACS conductivity, though not exactly sure about the impedance

Paul should have picked Neutrik NC4FD-LX-B for some of his SR7 builds

While 3-pin Jaeger would appear on others

I've never seen any builds with 4-pin female Jaeger connectors so far, therefore not sure if there were anything from Hummel that would be compatible with those Eidolic Peerless 4-pin XLR at all?

If the cost were truly no object, Mundorf Silver Gold could very well be replaced by CrystalConnect Monet Network

Recently Taiko Audio added Crystal Cable (a.k.a. CrystalConnect after the retirement of founder Gabi Rijnveld) to some of their latest demos as shown below

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkD7-47_eZMKDyHXM1XxNww/videos

Da Vinci managed to beat all flagship models from Siltech / Nordost / Shunyata Research

https://www.whatsbestforum.com/threads/crystalconnect-art-series-da-vinci-best-cables-of-2020.32099/

If I weren't mistaken, the only difference between Da Vinci and Monet should be the number of wires as shown in the PDF files linked above.

BTW, someone turned his Siltech SPX-800 PC into DC cable like this and just wondering if that were superior to Mundorf by any chance?

Yes, lots of possible options for DC wire but those high-impedance barrel connectors are instant turn offs and make the whole setup look cheap.  I think the connectors are potentially more damaging than the wire.

Just stealing some ideas from this GaN-based mini PSU, maybe we'll find a way to work with those binding posts from WBT?

Speaking of GaN-based power, did you guys find any GaN-based inverters useful for batteries at all?

As for a GaN-based inverter, I have not seen one.

Just a few examples

https://www.psma.com/sites/default/files/uploads/tech-forums-semiconductor/presentations/is082-portable-power-people-inergy-realizes-its-vision-transphorm-gan.pdf

I would treat that more like a bonus for me if I were getting positive results for audio applications.

Otherwise, better be safe than sorry these days since next disaster could very well be just around the corner. It could be flood or just about anything that we couldn't even imagine IMHO. Maybe that "Plan B" might end up saving our lives but who knows?

It's such a nostalgic experience to read our latest discussions, back in 2015 we're all about trying all kinda crazy mods with the original Chord Hugo in addition to quite a few USB DDCs by adding or replacing batteries / supercaps / WBT connectors / Mundorf Silver Gold etc.

Stock Hugo totally drove us nuts because of those recessed RCA jacks while we did understand the constraints of portable devices, many of us would love to try better cables without any adapters but only a few RCA connectors were a good fit.

Eventually some of us just went all out to get rid of those recessed RCA jacks, and then they're replaced by WBT-0210 Ag with Mundorf Silver Gold wires afterwards.

However, all of those jacks were meant for connecting coaxial S/PDIF cables or RCA interconnects. None of us actually tried replacing a DC barrel power jack with WBT-0210 Ag yet, therefore it could be an interesting experiment for sure.

BTW, I'm aware that a local shop here in Hong Kong should have replaced DC barrel power jacks with either Viborg CF201(R) or CM201(R) as shown below

However, I'm not sure about they're good enough for the high caliber of DC4 ARC6 despite their XLR contact pins with pure copper
