From what I see on this thread comes the conclusion (I don't know if correct one) that there are 2 kinds of 5.1.4 mixes: a "very nice" one and an "amazing" one..

I think in such circumstances one could say - a very nice remix - 2.0, don't know anything about 5.1 (there may be differences - both the CD layer and the DSD stereo layer were sourced from a 2006 DSD master, whereas the DSD multichannel 'track' was sourced from a 2002 DSD master).

The third album from Charles Lloyd's marvelous guitar trios, released this year in three different lineups, is a bit disappointing in comparison to the previous two releases. Most likely, Zakir Hussain's vocals are a bit off-putting for those who would prefer less crossover style singing and more faithful to the Indian classical tradition, or it just didn't work out this time.

Yannick Nézet-Séguin is one of my favorite conductors, but this recording, much as Gramophone likes it, is ruined for me by Batiashvili, whose playing I can't abide.  Just something in the tone....  So why am I noting this album?  Because of the young pianist on the Franck piece that opens the album, Giorgi Gigashvili.  He's quite amazing IMHO - someone to watch for the future.

Halfway through Charles Lloyds's latest album I gave up, apologies upfront but Hussain's singing makes me feel like paraphrasing Frank Zappa album's title and saying "shut up and play your tabla!" 😂 I reached for "Sangam" and hearing this fantastic recording was simply, phew, a relief.. (16-44).

LB isn't at the very top of favorite violinists but I think it's quite a good album, even with great moments.

Fazil Say and Goldberg Variations. There is no reason to doubt that this cannot be just another version in the mainstream tradition. Needless to say, pundits will easily find all sorts of reasons to disapprove it. But I find this performance very engaging.

Listened to the new Feliks Euforia EVO today (with DC Aeons, a very pleasant surprise, Santa!!!!). By the way, Enleum + Susvara is also quite nice.

A beautiful recording by the Arild Andersen Group, a prime example of what has made albums released on the ECM Records label instantly recognizable and distinctively inimitable. There's an elusive sense that the recording of the new lineup with saxophonist Marius Neset is out of time or belongs to the eternal now: this album could have been coming out on ECM twenty or forty years ago as well as this year. True art is timeless, they say.
