I guess that that I will be the odd man out here but I think that what makes CA(AS?) stand out is that it is really the best site on the web for pursuing computer related audio topics. Nothing else comes close.  I hope that the focus continues to be computer related advances otherwise there is a lot of competition for the regular audiophile meanderings.....

 

ps. I almost did not sign back in this morning as I thought that the site has been hacked/pranked 🙂

Don’t worry a bit. I’m a computer audiophile to the core. We’ll always be the hub for CA topics and products.

A quick note on the new logo. 

 

I wasn’t happy with using an existing font and tweaking it a little bit. So, I had the new name Audiophile Style hand painted by an artist who used to hand paint NHRA dragsters back when all the graphics were real paint, not vinyl. We digitized the original hand painted artwork to create the one of a kind logo above.

Thanks for the kind words and honest feedback so far. This site wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for all of you. I value all opinions. You guys have forgotten more than I’ll ever know. 

 

Last time we had a major site change, as @Superdad mentioned, all hell broke loose. I prepared myself well in advance this time. I can’t please everyone all the time, but I promise to steer the ship in the right direction. 

 

I think 99.9999% of you will like the added content in addition to more digital articles. Most of us have audio systems that require speakers, cables, and amps and could use a different take on those products. Well, except for the cables. We don’t review cables.

OK, last words from me on the name. There are many many things that go into naming a site. I'm OK with people disagreeing on the name. However, please spend the next roughly five years thinking about a good name, kicking around ideas about why one selects a name that is or isn't descriptive, research the hell out of it, make sure you own the domain name or can afford to purchase one that you don't own, etc... That's what I did. 

 

Chances are you may end up at a different conclusion than what came off the top of your head in this thread. No worries though. I'm not mad or frustrated. I expected much worse actually. After we went nuclear and replaced the entire site software I thought the world was ending. I expected something similar this time, but the feedback has been very pleasant. The PMs and emails from those in and outside the industry have been wonderful.

On Head-Fi I turned on emails for when someone quotes, mentions, or PMs me there, as it's often a question. I also only have it notify me at the top of the web pages when it's one of those three things, plus likes. For threads I'm following, on both sites I just check the "subscribed threads" / "content I follow" lists, which for me allows better time management.

Hi @PeterSt - I actually love the fact that the logo isn’t a font that’s perfect. The imperfections are cool to me and give it a more human look and feel.

I like to be different. I like human imperfections. I love that someone created this for me with a paint brush. To me this adds character in a world of soulless perfection often found online.

I thought this was a commissioned and legally registered company logo. Something that placed ability to be digitally rendered within the constraints of a web environment as a primary concern.  A formal statement of what this business is and how others can expect it to conduct itself.

Y’all are reading waaaaaaaaay too much into the logo. You can believe what you want and think you know some suggested meaning behind the size or style of parts of it, but I’m here to tell you there isn’t anything that’s real about all that. 

 

Would a logo for the old guard magazines that uses uniformly sized letter mean they use a balanced approach to discussing audio? Hell know. It has nothing to do with anything.

This can be done, but it's a wholesale change for everyone on all topics. I won't make the change unless I can figure a way to make it user selectable.

Thanks for the feedback. Don't worry about us becoming more about style than substance. To us, style is all about the way in which we do things. For example, right now I'm researching small single board computers that support Windows so I can try some leading edge renderers. The only style about that is that it's the way an audiophile / music aficionado would do it :~)

A simple website name change did not require a complete change in the domain. Domain and URL hyperlinks are what computers use to communicate. People see only what is presented to them and won’t care about URL details. You could have changed content and presentation without changing URL naming and locations for all your content.

 

This aspect was very badly thought out. 

Hi Shadorne - I highly recommend educating yourself in 301 redirects and configuring web servers. 

 

Also please try any of those links around the web. They all still work because we properly configured nginx to use 301 redirects.
