I can't remember.  Were you getting the Korean language hacker problem prior to introducing the RSS feed?

Something is broken. I can't change the settings for custom activity streams. The menus display as usual, but changes have no effect.

How far off are we from the site upgrades you mentioned?  To be honest it is less the fact a post may take 60 seconds to post followed by another 5-10 to fully load.  Or the internal links that never load requiring attempts at refreshing or clicking on alternate paths.  It's the sporadic nature and frequency of these issues that don't allow establishing a rhythm.  

 

This isn't a complaint.  If the servers are being severely overloaded I don't need to leave pages open or visit multiple times hourly.  I realize there are other measures at play to keep the site usable as well.  Just wondering if you have anything to add.

It requires a two stage move, one server then shut down and ship another server to the DC data center. The first server is done. Now the decond is ready to be shipped. Once it arrives it’ll be about a week of testing. Then we can cut over the site. Unfortunately we can’t get a 50% improvement now. It’s all at once.

Apparently following an article doesn't include the comments? I am following the recent Tidal/Soundiiz/Qobuz article but the comments don't appear in my "Content I follow" activity stream. They do show up under "Content I posted in" now that I've joined in there, but I seldom check that stream.

I think the comments are presented as a separate thread from the article itself. For the article you mention, this is the corresponding forum thread:

Yes, this is a weird idiosyncrasy with the software we use. To follow and receive notifications you need to use the forum post that's simultaneously posted when an article is posted. Here is a link to the forum posts for articles.

I notice that, starting today (or maybe last night) my followed threads email notifications no longer have text previews, but instead the generic "continue reading".  Is this a new design decision?

Hi Ted - We are fine tuning this one. 

 

We are tweaking to find the right balance. It solves a major issue we have with people replying to posts via email. My inbox is full of emails when people meant to reply via the site. Directing people to the site to read the full post is one way of getting them to stop emailing. 

 

More work on this to come.

I have to say that I find the change to “continue reading” very annoying!

I have to agree. The "Continue reading" thing is a real PITA.

 

Just out of curiosity, Chris, what is the use case that prevents you from making the notification no-reply?

 

Another option is to set the sender to something like "[email protected]" so replies go in the bit bucket. Problem solved!

If excessive emails are a PITA, then don't be a gyro (hero). Just toss 'em.

If not been presented with the Captcha anti-bot image test here previously,, but for the past 2-3 days I’m having to pass the test multiple times per day.  On both my desktop computer and iPad.  Nothing has changed wit my network, so what gives?
