Mayfair
"Jazz singer" doesn't come first to mind when remembering the great Fred Astaire, but Astaire was the jazz singer who introduced many of the standards in the American Songbook. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_introduced_by_Fred_Astaire Fred had a vocal range about as narrow as a knife blade, but I think Astaire's phrasing, timing, and intonation were every bit as good as the very best of the very best. The songs on this album were recorded in December 1952 with a young (26) Oscar Peterson on piano in the company of Flip Phillips, Charlie Shavers, Barney Kessel and Ray Brown. It's recorded and mastered to sound as good as it should - on the 1990 initial double CD release the DR on the various tracks ranges from the mid-teens to low 20s. Link to comment
rando
Timely collusion of the Bernstein century and titular ascension of H.R.H The Prince Of Wales has been an ongoing source of amusement for me. Sony's digital remastering a large section of his catalog for these CD's was generally quite good as well. Link to comment

The Bernstein Century remasters tended to be a little better. I love the vibrancy of his Eroica with the NYP. rando 1 Link to comment
rando
As it turns out the 1st and 3rd Symphony disc was in my queue last night. The game of what performance is remastered for what album is always there to bite you with a newer or better regarded option. 1983-1994 CD's are currently more interesting to me than the synthetically good "in the style of..." remasters using the same sound palette (as noted in my Callas post). These first attempt at legacy recordings might prove an impermanent part of my collection. I will consider doing a ripped disc comparison here. My early morning, yet to be deposed , album to sip coffee to the first disc of. Link to comment

Popular Post sphinxsix
After the evening in a nearby pub (they play some quite good classic rock there, listening to it while playing pool is quite ok, especially if you win ) time for a little more demanding material. Which I actually enjoy exceptionally tonight. Probably patly due to the weather which has been very 'undutch' for the last couple of days - lots of sunshine and 26-28 °C(!). Wishing everybody a fantastic Sunday! Melvin and Musicophile 1 1 Link to comment

What would be your choice? My two cents: I've seen him live perform Bach. He has some tendencies of being a bit of a "show-off", and not all of his recordings are top-notch, but I really haven't regretted seeing him perform. It was a very enjoyable performance. Still, it looks better than Goldberg Var. which will be performed in the close date by pianist AND Turkish percussionist. Link to comment

Glistening Dew is nowhere near 無塵. "Undefiled" is much more like it. Or in the Buddhist context, 塵 are objects of the senses. So "no defiled sensations" I suppose. 20 hours ago, Musicophile said: I've seen Jacob's perform Orfeo live with a similar cast, though in Paris (Theatre des Champs Elyées). Very enjoyable. The beginning was quite slow, but things build up quickly and become very enjoyable. Modern dance is very integral part of this production. Audio only would not be the same. So the video version is preferred. AnotherSpin, rando and Musicophile 2 1 Link to comment
