It took a while, but Roon just stopped playing in the middle of playback while streaming the new remaster of the Beuna Vista Social Club from Qobuz.

 

So I guess I can't call my solution 100% effective anymore.

@AudioDoctor I responded last night to a a remark someone made about a ROON slowness or some similar problem and the person who responded implied it was the other persons network or system SO... I replied " just another ROON apologist it's always your system your network or your internet connection--been like this for years takes minutes to load whilst Audirvana TIDAL Qobuz load immediately..." I then received a "no reply" email that my comment had been removed a "FLAGGED POST" "your post has been removed (oh my) it was INAPPROPRIATE...it was abusive offensive or a violation of our community guidelines" (oh well-f'em). Isn't  nice to see that Joesph Goebbels Minister of Propaganda and also PRAVDA (the truth) are still alive and living somewhere below the Antarctic ice shelf(my brother in law actually believes this)?? BTW i am a 'lifetime subscriber" do you think they will mess with MY ROON over this? They have done this before and forgave me only after I begged for forgiveness and said 5 Our Fathers 3 Hail Mary's and an Act of Contrition... being surprised I could still do this from memory---again f'em if they can't handle the truth(per Tom Cruise)

@katools@AudioDoctor : oh no not at all—previously they or the guy in charge of censorship sent  me a PM and took me behind the shed for what I had written which was far worse than I wrote above — all I was asking do YOU think they could do something nefarious to anyone’s ROON. Sorry for my poor attempt at sarcastic humor and I hardly use ROON any more except to compare Audirvāna STUDIO

I recieved a pretty colorful PM from an admin/mod on the forum too. Of course, in private and made it so I was unable to respond... Like good cowards.

 

I don't think its impossible for them to mess with someones Roon, the proof needed would have to be quite convincing and I don't see that happening. If it did, and there were proof, it would destroy Roon completely, which is why I don't see them doing that.

Any cloud based service like Roon can cut off a customer by disabling his account. Nothing else needed. Not saying Roon would ever do that, but any service technically could.

I gave this the "funny" response, but this site needs to add a "wow!" emoji, as that was my actual reaction.

 

Three months since letting my Roon subscription lapse.  I haven't missed the interface more than once or twice.  I do miss its SQ more often as I found it streams DSD better than JRiver and that DSP upscaling on Roon is more stable than with HQ Player Desktop, my current evaluation experiment.  (An i7 NUC over NAA is never going to let me enjoy HQPD to its full potential, as the higher quality modulators and filters make the NUC stutter sooner or later, if it plays at all.) 

 

I continue to pop over to the forum when I get the periodic email reminding me of what I am missing, but, after five or so minutes there, I find myself wanting to injure people.

Yes, absurd. Disclaimer: I'm the one that got banned for "trying to damage the forum." Sad that the COO has time to spend on the social media potential for their "community" instead of fixing bugs.

Regardless of one's opinion about firearms, the addition of the firearms topic has caused quite a stir.  I find it both disturbing and funny that they censor anything with a negative opinion about Roon if it comes across even remotely aggressive because it is "toxic" behavior, yet the addition of the firearms is fine, even though it is 'toxic' to many members on the forum.  When I started reading the COO's responses, which were his typical disconnected from reality responses, I though it must be a joke.  It is now more obvious than ever that Roon only cares about 'toxic' behavior if it is aimed at Roon or a related topic and does not see how their own COO's behavior is what causes the most 'toxicity' in the forum.  I am pretty sure he is doing this as a kind of social experiment so that he can laugh at the arguments and give his "I am smarter than you" opinions.  The forum has been pretty dead after they put out the new rules, but it is much more active with this topic being added and the discussion there after.  He is also very quick to respond in the discussion, but when a user needs help he never responds in a timely manner if he responds at all. Roon's lack of progress on anything is clearly not time related.  The new ROCK OS is supposed to be coming out this year, but since he is developing it himself I am guessing we won't see it anytime soon.

I have been with Roon for 7 years,and will not be renewing this year.There forum is a joke.When you have topics about guns taxes,jesus in a audio forum thats when I say enough.And it seems like Danny from Roon is always in on these off topics.I was flagged and had my topic removed for saying It doesn't matter if you open a topic in support it will still go off topic.

I would claim that the modulators in HQPlayer that you don't count in as "higher quality modulators" are still better quality than most other modulators you can find out there... For example ASDM5 and ASDM7 are already very good ones and don't take horribly lot of CPU power either. Although still heavier than some simpler ones out there.

Agreed. Which is why I almost certainly will buy a license once I find an ideal setting that sounds great but without dropouts.

 

The problem for me is psychological: I can hear differences with the EC modulators that make me ask myself, “Do I really want to buy yet another computer just for this application?”  Because, until I do that, I will always be aware that my system isn’t sounding as good as I already have heard it sound with the EC modulators. 😢
