My Adnaco sat on the shelf for two years until I figured out how to get the best out of it a year ago.

Once done, this is the best sounding "can of worms" you have ever heard.

Hi Larry,

Since 10GE SFP+ sounded better than 1GE SFP to begin with, do you think that 25GE SFP28 might be worth a gamble or otherwise?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Finisar-SFP-FTLF1436P3BCL-25GE-Long-Wavelength-Optical-Transceiver-Module/232556415671

I'm assuming that SFP28 modules could be plugged into SFP+ cages, while SFP+ modules could also be plugged into SFP28 cages according to this article

https://community.fs.com/blog/sfp-vs-sfp-vs-sf-p28-vs-qsfp-vs-qsf-p28-what-are-the-differences.html

Quote

They use the same form factor, and the pinouts of SFP28 and SFP+ connectors are mating compatible. So SFP28 will work with SFP+ optics but at a reduced speed of 10 Gbit/s. And SFP+ module will work well with SFP28 port on a network switch if the port can be set up for 10G transmission, otherwise the SFP+ modules can not work.

However, how do we figure out if a pair of Finisar FTLF1436P3BCL were able to work fine @ 10Gbps when they're plugged into both ends of Adnaco-S3B?

I just checked this datasheet and it didn't mention anything about backward compatibilities

https://www.mouser.com/new/finisar/finisar-ftlf1436p3bcl-transceivers/

Even the official site wouldn't tell us anything about that as well

That's posted in April and therefore someone did manage to purchase P5800X somewhere, and then these guys in Hamburg should be "claiming" to have a whopping 21 units of 800GB P5800X in stock

Software changes on this computer make almost as much difference as a clock. I keep tweaking it and it keeps sounding better and better. The last experiment I've done, inspired by @austinpop and @romaz was to install HQplayer with affinities on one CPU and NAA with affinities to the other CPU. It's good to have two processors! I also created a loopback interface with ipv6. And I used ipv6 via the loopback interface to stream from the HQP to NAA.

Thank you for the report. Solarflare NICs are widely used in the financial sector where low latency is a key. I've used thousands of them and always had it on my list to try one on my server (i.e. the 8000 series in particular).

Since Solarflare cards should be more Linux-friendly, what's your viewpoint on these hardware offloading features offered by the Windows driver (i.e. WinOF-2) from NVIDIA Mellanox?

https://docs.mellanox.com/display/winof2v26051000/Virtualization

  • Hyper-V with VMQ
  • Single Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV)
  • VF’s DHCP Redirections
  • Virtual Machine Multiple Queue (VMMQ)
  • Network Direct Kernel Provider Interface
  • PacketDirect Provider Interface
  • Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK)

This option enables or disables Single Root IO Virtualization Support if the system has SRIOV capable PCIe devices.

In order to take advantage of the powerful ASIC with ultra low latency, does Hyper-V Virtual Switch actually make sense if we're giving VM access only to the primary CPU so that network traffic between HQP and NAA could be handled by NVIDIA Mellanox instead of the loopback interface?

By the way my DAC has been playing for about 2 weeks or so and I cant describe what it is doing. Everything you thought you knew and assumed about digital is just wrong. The ability to put images in space and allow the listener to hear the music and the spaces between the notes is other worldly. Wadax has IMHO has not just pushed the envelope they tore it up! Listening is believing. I called Oliver Göbel last week and my words to him were simply you have not heard what a Divin Marquis is capable of until you hear it with this.

I am really having a hard time walking out of that room even for lunch or to go home at night.

Every time I walk in there I loose time and walk out like I had smoked a bowl of hash.
This is something every music lover should experience. It is not priced for everyone I am very aware of that but it is TRULY a statement item.

Yet another paradigm shift or something?

Given the size of Wadax, it wouldn't be all that surprising if both DAC and Server were based on an ASIC that's manufactured by Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.

FYI - the latest version 208 of MinorityClean should have hit the "jackpot"

http://jplay.eu/forum/index.php?/topic/3063-pink-hq-minorityclean/?view=getlastpost

Quote

208 still more euphonic and exciting than previous versions.

It has incredible transient response, ultra-massive, deeeeeep bass and super-open and exciting highs. Instruments are perfectly separated. Everything feels so alive. Everything is so detailed.

It is so exciting it makes me want to jump to the rhytm.

OryA is on fire again. Every version since 205 brings massive improvement

Hi guys..,
I have now tried 208 and like it pretty much.
First impression, everything got more into focus. Soundstage with better resolution and precise/focus imaging. Bass hits tighter and even more impactful. I will let it runs for next 24hrs and revisit my preliminary observations.
This is fantastic…!

Here's a script created by HungryBear on another forum

http://jplay.eu/forum/index.php?/topic/3063-pink-hq-minorityclean/?p=54544

Quote

The script will now start multiple instances of MinorityClean with NT Authority / System privileges, and then automatically terminate the NSSM.exe application.

Which will give you all the benefits of running MinorityClean, but with significantly less memory usage, significantly less CPU usage, and fewer processes, threads and handles running in your system.

Which means better sound for you!

For the reasons mentioned above, this method is better than the sexe64 or Fidelizer method, even if you run just one instance of MinorityClean.

Service User Accounts

IMHO it's mighty interesting to launch an application as System or TrustInstaller etc. since those Service User Accounts should be relatively clean when compared to the regular ones such as local administrator.

It's less likely to have a cluttered registry hive associated with those accounts, while no user profiles could be found under the C:\Users directory.

Weren't you missing the whole point of my post, maybe issues with comprehension or something? Getting too emotional or what?

I quoted @romaz simply because of borrowing his own (among similar ones from the others as well) experiences as an example, nothing more than that.

Where I expect to see the greatest gains, beyond the gains from a QSA-treated component like a DAC, for example, is with a QSA-treated power supply for that DAC. While treating the SMPS for DAVE will undoubtedly have positive results, there are advantages to treating an over-specified linear PSU because they have much more conductor in them. The amount of conductor in a 600VA toroidal transformer, for example, is just so much greater than what is probably in the entire DAC. Other things like the chokes and internal DC cabling should have significant impact, too.

While both cables improved with treatment, the lower purity 3N cable improved much more dramatically to the extent that it now outperformed the 7N cable. The 3N cable just sounded more alive and had more presence. The 7N cable sounded more lifeless but also more smeared and closed in.

I just wanna highlight the fact that plenty of materials with 2N (i.e. 99% purity) copper could be acquired from these folks in LA

You struck GOLD, regarding the sound quality, makes you think how much flavo(u)r different, more or less "bloated" Windows Versions (Server, Server Core, 10, 11, different patch levels and builds) have.  WPE is the first one that lets the soul of the music perfectly shine through. IMO & YMMV, of course.

Hard to blame them in some senses -- this stuff isn't for the faint of heart and can take a lot of time and effort, so it's easier to have something like AO do it "for you," but the sonic results are superior, I think we can all agree, if you take the time.

I too am conviced that any manual ways (including trial + error as always in life) tweaking OS is the waytogo for best music reproduction and/or smallest disk & RAM footprints.

I’ve been involved with a lot of Windows tweaking and slimming over the years, and nothing has excited me as much as PE/this project. I missed the cics days over on Audio Asylum by a year or two, but I’m familiar enough with it to know that this project is the closest we’ve gotten with modern/non-XP Windows to that era. Just being able to kill lsass.exe without much consequence is alone a huge deal, even the cics folks had to work to get that done on XP ten plus years ago. Jesus Cheung’s Win 7 tweaking at Tir Na HiFi didn’t get this close, IMO AudiophileOptimizer or other programs have not gotten to this level, pkshan’s Win7 or Foobar projects did not get this good or this far, etc. Samotc foremost but also seeteeyou should really be given credit where it’s due in finding and exploring PE, it sounds great and is leagues above other Windows in its ability to slim and tweak. Thanks!

Streacom SG10 looked good until I saw this

Those decent motherboards with relatively high number of VRM phases seemed to require the size of E-ATX in order to accommodate so many components. And then we've got SSI EEB for Asus WS C621E SAGE etc.

If they weren't able to offer any options for mounting anything larger than ATX motherboards, then they might actually try to limit the range of motherboards that would be suitable for such a fanless chassis. In other words, no love for flagship models and most likely that should be done deliberately.

I have to say that after trying all the versions of windows "normal" from 7 to server 2019 core "ramdisk", none comes close to Win11PE audiophile, both in clarity, precise and focused soundstage, timbre purity, and body and presence of music,
because what sounds is music.
I have ripped quite a few vinyl to DSD128 and it is very difficult for me to distinguish between the analog sound of the vinyl and the equivalent dsf file playing on my hi-fi system, which is not the case with any of the other operating systems.
In any case, I don't know anyone who after trying Win11PE both XPE and Ultralite has returned to a "normal" version of Windows, that is the best proof that the system is the best to date.
