I received my Yggdrasil, and have a question...

I'll give it a shot.

Not sure if this can be done but I’d also try setting HQPlayer to not upsample at all and only dither your 24 bit content down to 20 bit if you have 24 bit content.

The Yggy is really really good when fed with red book.  IMO not quite as good with hi-res.  Again IMHO.

I have actually just tried that. I am playing around trying different things.

I am fighting myself and trying to remember that the DAC doesn't need those 4 bits anyway, it just feels wrong to be doing this, but this is what I am trying now.

Do not worry...  No one can hear below about 16 to maybe 18 bits in room anyway, there is not enough DR to do that, it is impossible.  What you do want to achieve is less distracting quantization error which can fold into the audible bandwidth, and by setting the HQPlayer output to 20 bits you may be avoiding that.  This kind of depends on how the oversampling/filtering is done in the Yggdrasil vs. HQPlayer.

IMHO, the Yggy is awesome with high res.

I am going to go on record and say I prefer the Bit Rate set to Default in HQP rather than setting it to 20 bits. To me, it sounds more open, less closed in, and there is more of the low level detail, more easily heard.

Its close though, very very close.

So i just have 48 hours on my yggy.   I couldnt resist.  I know it needs at least a week burn in.  But unison vs singxer su-6.  Maybe the same.   Is aes  still the best way to use a yggy?

It depends...

The new Unison USB is really good.

This is especially worth trying with Unison USB on the Yggy. I sold my Regen after upgrading my Yggy to Unison, because the Regen no longer improved the sound as it did with Gen5 USB.

Very good information and thank you for sharing. I briefly considered purchasing an ISO-Regen (used) to pair with my Yggy (Unison) some time back... and now i'm glad someone else got to it first. One less component to worry about ;)

I am still wondering what benefits, if any, would be obtained with something like an Innuos Phoenix or JCAT Net Femto XE in partnership with a Unison Yggy.
