Popular Post boneman
Some background first. I had about 4,000 lps and 2,000 cds so when I came back to the States and retired, digitising my sources seemed to be a way to downsize some of the physical aspects of one's collection and add a convenience factor to music listening. My lps were in storage for about 15 years while we lived overseas and in my last assignment, Singapore, I traveled over 50% of the time so most listening was via an Ipod. I did like itunes a lot but it did not really support other files types or players. My computers and network are Win, 7 back then and 10 now, all 64. I first started using J River in 2013 and found the interface to be easy to use. During 2014 and 2015 I ripped about 2,400 lps into FLAC files using a software called VinylStudio by Alpine. I have also used J River to rip a number of CDs so the library has about 40,000 files which are all stored on a NAS which is accessed by WIFI. For remote I have been using Gizmo. I currently use J River 19 and 20 for Win and 23 for Linux (used with a Raspberry Pi 3 streamer). Besides the streamer I have 3 desktop and 1 laptops using the J River in various playback setups/rooms. I find the library management and view features to be very good. While perhaps the software in totality has too many options, you can certainly set it and forget it. I have had no issues with the software or the interface with the OS, be it Win or Debian on the streamer. The only W10 issue I had was one of the Win updates last year made my DAC driver not function and this was resolved by the DAC manufacturer who issued a new driver after a couple of weeks, i.e. not a JRiver issue. I have not tried the other player programs as I am satisfied with the results from J River. I still play records but as I noted earlier, play a lot of music via J River due to convenience and ease of accessibility. beerandmusic and jriver 1 1 FLAC and AIF files mainly 192/24 and lower on Synology DS412 4x4Tb WD Red in SHR2>direct ethernet to NUC>Intel NUC5PPYH w/JR Media 20 Akasa Newton P fanless case and DIY o11 LPS>Straightwire USB cable>W4S Recovery w/LPS>W4S DAC2DSD V2 w/Femto clock>Kimber Silver Streak balanced>Balanced Audio Technology VK3000SE>Kimber Monocle XL>Sonus Faber Cremona floorstanders Link to comment

Panelhead
I have given up all except Pure Music. 1. Use the 64 bit crossover function to drive a four channel dac. 2. Use the integral upsampler to the highest rate supported by the dac. 3. Less is More function is a playlist style. Improves sonic quality more than I can explain. 4. Playback from RAM. There may be better playback software. But I seriously doubt it. Even 44.1/16 sounds glorious. 96-24 is amazing. It does DSD too. All my DSD files are ISO rips. Does not do ISO playback. That is a feature Rob wanted to offer, not sure how many potential users. 2012 Mac Mini, i5 - 2.5 GHz, 16 GB RAM. SSD, PM/PV software, Focusrite Clarett 4Pre 4 channel interface. Daysequerra M4.0X Broadcast monitor., My_Ref Evolution rev a , Klipsch La Scala II, Blue Sky Sub 12 Clarett used as ADC for vinyl rips. Corning Optical Thunderbolt cable used to connect computer to 4Pre. Dac fed by iFi iPower and Noise Trapper isolation transformer. Link to comment

fas42
Media Monkey, on an older HP laptop. Turned out this gave the best SQ for this m/c, and the settings can be twiddled nicely, for me, to get the best out of it. Link to comment
gmgraves
I use the Logitech Media Server feeding my Logitech Squeezebox Touch, exclusively. I have JRiver Media Player 23, but I use it only as a organizational/cataloging tool. The Logitech Server streams the files directly from my iTunes music folder (irrespective of format, bit depth, or sample rate) and doesn't use either iTunes (which I never use) or JRiver at all. When playing music from my desktop system, my source is JRiver, but only then. George Link to comment

rmel66
FB2K. I have created four DLNA renderers using FB2K and the UPnP component. One is a native Windows device and the other three (Asus EEEpc 2g surf, Dell Fx160 thin client and Cenovo mini pc) are running various Linux versions in persistent mode on sdcard/thumb drives with WINE. I also have two Chromecast audio devices and an Audiocast M5 (chromecast lookalike). Everything is tied together with Minimserver (with minimstreamer enabled and transcoding performed by FFMPEG), BubbleUPnP server (to create Openhome renderers) and Linn Kazoo on a dedicated smartphone as the controller. The FB2K devices perform flawlessly in this setup and play everything thrown at them including internet radio streams (incorporated in several M3u files separated by genre). The chromecast devices will play all static files served up by Minimserver but balk at the internet streams; some will play, while others will not. The Audiocast M5 has DLNA built in, and plays all formats just fine, but volume control with Linn Kazoo is non-existent. I have to use the companion app to effect volume control. rmel66. beerandmusic 1 Link to comment

Also is it possible to roll several addins into one easy to install addin with your desired settings, so that you could just add one addin that did it all? I have played with FB2K in past, but every time i consider revisiting it, i hate having to research all the settings and addins i need to get it to a desired state. Link to comment
loop7
My Roon usage has decreased over the last few months due to frustration with classical metadata. Of course, this is not Roon's fault but the fiasco of how Classical music is tagged. Just tired of importing music and wasting time having their DB find it. I am getting into using Spotify Connect and Amarra sQ+ which is offering surprisingly good sound. Link to comment
