Audio_ELF
Just don't ask me again next year... Eloise --- ...in my opinion / experience... While I agree "Everything may matter" working out what actually affects the sound is a trickier thing. And I agree "Trust your ears" but equally don't allow them to fool you - trust them with a bit of skepticism. keep your mind open... But mind your brain doesn't fall out. Link to comment

coot
At last check-up I complained about some pains. Doc said "You're almost at 3/4 of a century - of course you have pains." I sucked it up, but that's not exactly how I'd encourage a patient. I'd get a new doc, but he's the only one in town. Link to comment

CatManDo
From the current results, it looks like the there should be only one <40 category and more subcategories for 70+ BTW , I would mind having the age listed under the avatar Claude Link to comment
davide256
Interesting...I've always been an audiophile but there was a chasm between 30-45 where marriage with small children left no time or dollars to pursue. I suspect free time and cash are essential to be a "practicing" audiophile. Regards, Dave Audio system Link to comment

NipperDog
I'm very surprised by the results of this thread! If it had been a straight audiophile pole, (not geared towards people who are computer savvy), then I would have expected to see the ages weighted towards us older folks. But because the emphasis here is on computer-based audio, I thought the members would have been younger. I didn't even touch my first computer until I was about 30. Link to comment

hesson11
Perhaps younger folks, more accustomed to convenience over quality (i.e., MP3, Youtube, etc.), are more accepting of inferior sound quality, and we older folks are from a generation to whom sound quality has always mattered (i.e. former readers of Stereo Review, Audio, High Fidelity). -Bob Link to comment
wgscott
Maybe it is simply that, since younger people have a more acute sense of hearing, they don't have to spend as much time reinforcing their imaginary beliefs in unmeasurable differences in audio quality. That, and the fact that Baby Boomers looted the economy and the only thing they can afford is pirated mp3s and a pair of earbuds for their iphones. Link to comment

Perhaps it is due to oldies no longer having an acute sense of hearing, and NEEDING higher quality in order to help make up for their diminished HF hearing capabilities ?
