Despite it being far better than the old v3, it’s a pity the single most useful search tool I can think of has not been incorporated in v4 so far - search all favorites in local, Tidal and Qobuz at the same time. 
 

I think this is Roon’s strength - to display an integrated database of all favorites. And then of course it’s ability to find new stuff.

No issues playing 2 albums with different bit rates consecutively using the “Play All” function. Local files or tidal files through usb connected DAC

Installing v4 from a usb drive only affects the attached USB drive and not the installed drive so its safe and you can try again by reflashing the usb. 
 

I’ve only ever used BalenaEtcher under Mac for flashing and it rechecks the flash after each usb has been made so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. However I’ve found that the condition of the usb drive used matters. My experience is that an old school security format (clear all bits) helps to speed things up and make it more stable during use. Try that perhaps?

My v4 trial has expired! 😢

 

I though I would just keep using it and have to press play every 30s or so and dismiss the pop up messages about registration but the sound changes!

 

Not as exciting and clear as when running under TRIAL. Soundstage takes a hit. Did anyone notice this too?

Same experience. Sound quality changes for the better after waiting for a bit after initial installation. Absolutely no idea why!

Yeah, that's what Željko said at around that time, probably his target and hope. Software development is ALWAYS late... but I'm pretty certain our trial versions will be allowed to continue to work until the final v4 comes out. Just takes opening a support ticket and the time will be extended.

 

If it's rushed, we'll have a final v4 with bugs. If we wait for a more stable version, less chance of it messing up our v3 partition and settings - really looking forward to v4 working with my v3 playlists. 

 

But like most here, I'm also eager to see how the sound changes when v4 final is installed into the internal drive rather than via a USB drive

Given that recent buyers of v3 has v4 included, I suppose this means Euphony is switching to the Roon model where you can either pay an expensive one-time fee which doesn't expire or opt for a low priced monthly fee. 🤔

 

One thing I noticed in 0707, don't click the new ignore button for devices (settings). Itchy fingers made me do it for my uPNP device and I couldn't get it to appear again after that. If you did, you'd then have to open a browser developer console and execute the command:

 

changeAudioField("uuid........", "ignored",""); uuid..... being the id for the ignored device to get it back. 

 

Or open a ticket to get help, which is what I did...

A perpetual license for v4 but you only get feature upgrades (and personal help?) for a fee. Bug repairs for existing functions remain free.

Roon doesn’t offer personal and fast service for help. They only have the community chat for that. 
 

Euphony has fast response personal help with remote in checkups in needed. And on the fly bug fixes with permanent fix during the next software update. 

 

Help doesn’t get better than this!

Looks like v3 users still have to wait. As for recent v3 buyers paying 300euro for 2 years (with 2 year v4 licence free), I'm not sure why the new v4 purchase is 119euro per year only making it cheaper than for those recent v3 buyers. Will they get a refund or extended time for the difference?

For those already installed v4, the software update feature doesn’t work until you click the save button first. 
 

Latest stable version is 20220720 mostly with bug fixes.

this motherboard does not have an HDMI input or the old blue multi pin input. 
I am not sure how to interface to make sure it is set up for USB or UEIF boot. 
Does anybody have a clue how I hook up a monitor

 

Hi Bill, sorry to see you have having issues updating the Euphony software to v4.

 

Reach out the DIY fellow that built your server perhaps? Installing v4 requires a USB drive, cant be done from v3. Since you don't seem to have access to a monitor easily, that DIY fellow will have to find a way to access the BIOS and switch the boot sequence to the USB drive. I'm surprised that your unit didn't come with a video card if the motherboard doesn't have video outputs.

 

Once you have booted up from the USB drive, you'll have to register the software to make the installation into internal drive menu appear. You should have received an email about upgrading to v4, the link to pay and get the registration code is in that email. If you don't register, the installation menu is hidden. Also be careful to select to "repair" not "install". This means your existing v3 settings - image cache, playlists etc. will be maintained and not lost. There is a drop down list of where you want to install the v4 during the process, so if you aren't sure how to do this, get help from your DIY fellow.

 

Once all is done and working, update the v4 to the latest version. Unfortunately there is a big bug in the 20220708 (the latest v4 from USB) which stops updates. Easily fixed by going to Settings/System/Expert Settings/Update Channel and pressing "Save".

 

Sounds like a lot of work but v4 is so much better sounding it's worth the effort to try. Good luck!

I use RopieeeXL on an Allo Boss2 and Euphony discovers and plays fine to it. But seems to have a problem controlling the Boss2 volume. My work around is to use Roon's volume to control the Boss2 which seems to work.

 

I might try shutting down or disabling Boss2 in Roon. Perhaps it's just taking over the volume management from Euphony.

Željko knows about the Lan isolation function not working. Told him sometime back. 
 

I also suggested to make the isolation timer default to the rest of the unplayed tracks in the playlist instead of the entire playlist. He indicated he had other priorities to work on - in pretty stiff words I shouldn’t repeat here..

Also Qobuz has been rather flaky recently. Pre-download speeds are so slow it’s affecting smooth playback in the offline LAN isolation mode. The original idea of pre-downloads of the next 2 tracks doesn’t work consistently anymore with Qobuz. 
 

If Tidal hosts the same album, better stick with them.

Bill, buy a PCIe video card (graphics card) for your streamer, they cost next to nothing. It’s only for setting up so it doesn’t need to be audiophile quality. You don’t need it during normal streamer use. 
 

It’s always useful to have a graphics card handy for setting and adjusting bios. 
 

Also from your posts, looks like your usb stick isn’t ready yet. Don’t worry about partitions etc. The steps are:

 

- Do a security format into any type Fat32, ExFat, etc. Doesn’t matter which one. But it’s good practice to select the option that wipes everything from the USB bit by bit. This should take some time. If it’s fast then the security wipe didn’t happen. It makes the usb boot drive less prone to error later. 

- Use BalenaEtcher to make the usb boot drive. There are versions that that work in both Pc and Mac. You also have to download the v4 image appropriate for either PC or Mac. BalenaEtcher verifies the copy is good at the end of the copy. 
- Boot the streamer into BIOS with the usb attached. Press F2 during booting to do this. With the graphics card and monitor installed, you can see if that works. Sometimes the booting process bypasses the Bios screen. Reboot a few times if necessary until the BIOS screen shows 

- Go to the boot order page and set the USB to be the priority device for booting

- reboot streamer normally (usb drive attached)

- Euphony should run from the usb

- continue from the remote device you normally use - iPhone, iPad, computer etc

- complete the registration process. Not straightforward so get back here for help if you get stuck. Or reach out to Željko. 

- The option to move the v4 from USB into the streamer drive appears only after registration is complete. 
- choose install/repair 

- choose repair. This is important or all your v3 settings will be lost. And follow instructions on the monitor

- once the boot has been moved into the streamer, you can switch boot sequence back to internal drive from the bios, remove the usb drive, graphics card and reboot streamer 

- after successfully running v4 20220708, you have to do some adjustments before it will update to latest version. Check back here later for that. 

 

But to start, you need a monitor attached to the streamer for this so get yourself a graphics card first.

After pressing the save button, what’s supposed to happen is that shortly after Euphony offers you to update to the latest 0722 version. Perhaps this only occurs in the registered version. I can’t remember if the Check For Update feature works before registration is complete, seems that it’s needed.

 

In this case, looks like you’ll have to wait for Željko’s help to arrive. Registration in 0708 is buggy. Same thing happened to me, took a few remote sessions to get it working.

I will have a chance to compare Euphony v4 with Win10 IoT Enterprise LTSC / JPlay (Custom ISO) both installed internally in the same streamer this coming weekend. The streamer is built by @Anwarand will be on demo in a HiFi show in Kuala Lumpur from the 5-7 Aug.

 

Not easy to get a comparison for this - most streamers are usually optimised one way or the other. And Win10/JPlay setups might not have been tuned well to get the max sound achievable, but that will not be the case here. Thanks Dr.Anwar for setting this up!  😄

 

Looking forward to hearing the differences between the 2 setups and plan to report my findings here.

But if using USb connection to DAC, I think windows OS will be ahead in comparison, as windows have more advance ASIO driver for USB that can be tuned. Thats my opinion.

I expect that the system will be playing USB to DAC and I’ll try to listen to both ASIO and Kernel Streaming.
