watercourse
2/18 (yesterday): Ambrose Akinmusire with Gerald Clayton at The Old Church (TOC) - amazing musicians! The venue fit the intimacy of the performance perfectly. I've seen Ambrose before, but not Gerald, and they were outstanding. 2/21: Hiatus Kaiyote and Butcher Brown at Schnitzer Hall 2/24: Dave Holland Quartet and Derrick Hodge Trio at Rev Hall 3/4: Colin Stetson w/ Justin Garrett Walter at TOC 3/28: Tortoise at Rev Hall 4/19: Sleaford Mods at Rev Hall 5/5: Deerhoof at the Aladdin There are new shows being announced weekly here in Portland, and I'm going to have to hold back on buying more tix until I see what Portland Jazz Festival's fall lineup is, and if Soul'd Out brings more bands here. botrytis
Seeing Buddy Guy was great, listening to drunk and obnoxious audience members not so much. There were xo many of them. Buddy Guy told the audience 4 times to "Shut the Fuck up." No more blues concerts in large venues for me. One of the most underrated, and under appreciated singer, songwriters ever. If You Saw Thro My Eyes, and Tigers Will Survive are two of my favorite albums ever. I did manage to see him live, once, when he was performing with Matthew's Southern Comfort around 1973-4. I would absolutely love to see him live again, but his only appearance in America is in Milwaukee, which would require a major trip for me with a flight, hotel, etc. etc. and after a very surgery planned for this summer, it would be a very difficult trip. What a disappointment. Have a wonderful time at the concert! JC Iving and Superdad 1 1 Link to comment

sandston
Two nights of Dead and Company at the LA Forum. Never thought in a million years I'd enjoy a band playing the music of the Grateful Dead without Garcia but dam do these guys bring it. Who watched or was lucky enough to be at that Cornell show last week? Stunning. If you are even remotely curious and haven't done so yet do yourself a favor and catch these guys before its all over in July. I have seen him in concert a number of times. They were always outstanding shows, displaying his musical brilliance. He's appearing in Detroit, but with even halfway decent tickets going for $350.00 a pop, plus Ticketmaster extortion, add in a one and a half hour drive each way, $40-50 for parking, plus dinner before, that is easily a thousand dollar night out for two of us to go. In retirement, much as love Gabriel and his music, that's simply not logical or sensible. And that's shame. Major artists simply have become unaffordable for the middle class. It looks like my days of attending events other than at smaller halls with less than major artists, are effectively over. ☹️ Link to comment

I lived there at the time. When my wife and I heard he was coming, we were both grad students at the time, we tried and tried. The tickets were sold out in 5 minutes. We say the announcement 1/2 after it was released.
