As usual, the dose of sarcasm that most expect from you.

Have you ever participated in a series of blind tests, with say 20 different pairs of comparison tracks, but 3 lots of them with the same files generated and renamed by somebody else's computer from the original supplied 20 pairs of different tracks, using a program specially written for this test? (a total of 60 comparisons) If you haven't , then you don't have any idea about how tedious and hard it is to do.

Especially, if none of the comparison tracks sounds quite the same as the original file inserted as a reference to better help in identifying any differences. (i.e. a total of 90 comparison tracks)

Sounds like an extremely poor design for a test. Very poor. If your reference isn't really your reference then it is a broken test as well.

You are assuming that I have never attempted this kind of thing before.

See post 166.

What were the results and did it change your opinion on anything?

I would like to think we can all behave as adults and self moderate without a set of explicit rules. I don't like censorship and deep down we all know how to behave .... simply treat other people as you would like to be treated.

As adults we need to rely on our life skills that we developed while growing up to deal with difficult people behaving badly. We need to be able to judge whether or not the other person is simply having a bit of fun or trying to be intimidating and be disrespectful.

Mayem13 posted something along these lines a while back stating that he enjoyed the banter and sledging (as well call it Australia) and for him that was part of the fun ... these aren't his exact words and apologies for mis quoting but can't find his blog.

Its funny that I am having similar conversations with my 15 year old son about how to handle difficult people who like to throw their weight around. My advise to him has been to build up his own self confidence by working hard and gaining expertise and knowledge in a field he enjoys ... sport, art, music or whatever, so that when he is attacked he actually knows that he is OK and that he is not dumb.

It also really helps to not take the sledges of others too seriously or personally, to try and make light of them ... who really enjoys hurting or belittling others if they don't have an out of control ego or mental health issues themselves. These really aren't people to concern yourself with.

I think a good analogy for our current situation is the relationship between government and big business. If big business does not behave well (and haven't there been too many examples of this ...bi tobacco, big oil, big banks, etc) then the government will enact new laws to ensure that it does.

We really don't want new laws - we all know the difference between a bit of banter that is clever and funny and someone being demeaning.

The tests were designed by Greg Erskine from DIY Audio with the intention of posting the results in DIY Audio. Greg refused to accept that the reference file could sound better than his files generated by copying and renaming via different HDDs, then copied back to the originally supplied USB memory stick.

I will email you the rest to avoid further off topic stuff.( if I can locate it)

Alex

How a Digital Audio file sounds, or a Digital Video file looks, is governed to a large extent by the Power Supply area. All that Identical Checksums gives is the possibility of REGENERATING the file to close to that of the original file.

Another straw man Alex. I have ignored none of the things you said I ignored. For instance I like at least 30 samples and were it me I would not do more than 15 at once. Short they would be. If you find longer and fewer per session works better you can do them that way. Yes it takes time. And 99% confidence is not 99% correct. For instance out of a test of 20 samples it would only be two more correct choices or 17 out of 20. For thirty you only need 24 out of 30.

This is one of the frustrating things. Someone said I was miffed that others don't so clearly agree with me. That does not bother me all that much. What does is repeatedly, over and over and over people pull out the same old complaints which both are not true and have been explained away dozens of times. If you really are discussing something, instead of supplying knee jerk complaints for something you have already decided you don't like then you wouldn't see posts like this.

I have done it both ways, and I can assure you for me the results are better shorter. Why is it okay for people to not believe me in my ABX experience while saying I can't know what someone hears and doesn't hear? If you do it both ways you would know which works better for you. I am guessing you aren't going to do it either way. That is fine too, there just isn't much upside to trotting out the old complaints to score points or whatever you think it accomplishes.

(Amusement) I said it irritated you that people do not agree with what you see so plain and clearly. This is a good example Dennis.

People do not agree with you and consistantly poi t that out. You feel you have explained away their excuses.

A bit of light brevity for those who feel we are all too serious.

A man suspects his wife is having an affair and returns home a day early from a business trip. While en route he offers the cabbie a $100 to be a witness.

It’s after midnight and together they tip toe into the bedroom. The husband switches on the light, yanks the blanket back and there is his wife in bed with another man! The husband puts a gun to the naked man's head.

The wife shouts, 'Don't shoot! I lied when I told you I inherited money.

HE paid for the the new Revel 2 speakers I gave you that you always wanted.

HE paid for your Berkeley Alpha DAC Reference.

HE paid for your Classe pre / power amp combination.

HE even paid the kid’s school fees and pays my Credit Card!’

Shaking his head from side-to-side the husband lowers the gun and looks over at the cabbie and asks, 'What would you do?

The cabbie replies, 'I'd put the blanket back over him before he catches a cold.

A lawyer walk in a bar ordered 8 beers and start drinking one after the other

The barman asked him if he was celebrating something

The lawyer said my first BJ

The bar man said congratulation

The lawyer replied oh no it taste like s**t

Let us stay a bit more on topic.

4 audiophile friends meet at a buffet 30 years after college. One goes to take food while the other 3 start to talk about how successful their sons have become.

No. 1 said his son studied sound engineering and became so rich that he presented a close friend with a pair of Wilson Audio Specialties Alexias.

No. 2 said his son studied economics, became a banker and became so successful that he gave his best friend a Berkeley Alpha DAC.

No. 3 said his son became a divorce lawyer and did so well that he was able to build his good friend state-of-the-art, acoustically treated listening room.

No. 4. came back with a plate full of food and asked what the buzz was all about.

His friends told him, and asked about his son. To which No. 4 replied his son is gay and works in a popular bar.

The other 3 quietened down, looked at one another… finally, one remarked that No. 4 must be disappointed.

“Not really," said No. 4, “My son is doing okay. He recently received a pair of Wilson Audio Specialties Alexias and a Berkeley Alpha DAC, as well as a state-of-the-art acoustically treated listening room on his birthday.”

^ supposedly an award-winner. adapted to audiophile tastes...

I've often thought about banning DBT discussions just as Head-Fi has done. However, it's my hope CA readers are professional enough to discuss just about anything without too many issues.

Peter, you really should try harder to restrain your enthusiasm. :)

BTW, has UltraM set a new record for fewest posts before getting banned?

So I pasted the quote into Google to see the rest of the poem, and at the bottom of the first page of results comes an advertisement for "Male Breast Reduction L.A - Gynecomastia Specialist‎." ;)

It should be an advertising for a total circumcision.

That is why Google is rapidly becoming or has become as well loved as Microsoft at its monopolistic best. :)

I wasn't aware that there was such a thing as a partial circumcision, at least apart from a a botched job. :)
