SoundQcar
Monty is a big gap in my collection, no idea why. I have only a small handful of albums. Which ones should I get? My favs are Montreux Alexander...and Reunion in Europe. Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? Max.I.Mal
New to this thread, I hope this hasn't been mentioned yet: Tarek Yamani Trio - Ashur (Piano Trio with a tuba instead of a double base) Anne Guus Teerhuis Trio - Tarhouse Tales. Both bands feature the same drummer, btw. This isn't available on HD Tracks or qobuz as of yet but you can stream it via tidal. Link to comment

oso
He didn't get to record much under his own name I believe. I only have one album by him. No there are several; this is only the most recent trio; Jeff Hamilton Trio | Discography Sections | Jeff Hamilton Jazz Drummer and well recorded too. Link to comment
oso
recorded in 24/96 PCM recorded in DSD and in PCM. read here; DSD or here Sound Liaison Music Shop Sound Liaison let me download the 24/96 as well. Now I've probably overpaid 5 bucks. Never mind, nice album in any case. So you have both, what is your verdict on En Azul? DSD or PCM? Link to comment
Musicophile
So you have both, what is your verdict on En Azul? DSD or PCM? Didn't have time for any critical listening yet and traveling right now (Paris). Will get back to see which one I prefer. JoeWhip
Jeff Hamilton's Live at Steamers is very good as well. Very nicely recorded as well. I have had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times and discussing jazz. A very nice gentleman as well as a great drummer. Link to comment

I know exactly what he means. Time based guys like Jeff are a treat and not all that common in the jazz world. Seeing him perform live is a treat! here is Jeff with John Clayton and Monty Alexander at the Blue Note in NYC awhile back. Link to comment

christian u
They actually run the PCM track through an analog console to record it in DSD. Seemslike a waste of time to me. Here, you can buy the studio master which is PCM and cheaper than the DSD copy. Call me crazy, but I want the studio master. I have several of their recordings. En Azul sounds sensational in 24/96 WAV. Excellent playing as well. This one is a no brainer. recorded in 24/96 PCM recorded in DSD and in PCM. read here; DSD or here Sound Liaison Music Shop I just stick with PCM for both albums....but I have to admit that the DSD does sound good too. AnotherSpin
By the way, Loverman on the Vanguard album could really turn into my favorite version of this standard. Piano trio is not my favorite format (Standards Trio is a thing by itself, it doesn't count), but this recent recording from Christian McBride trio is very good! Link to comment
mkrzych
Thanks. Will probably buy it over the weekend. Yeah, the same on my side I think ;-) Piano sounds quite nice over the web, I am not fan of ACT, but Adam Baldych recent album is quite good sounding - done on analogue console and Adam respond to me that he spent quite lot of time on the mix. First Impression: very weird and dark, but very interesting. Expect a review on my blog tomorrow. And I'm certainly going to buy it when I get back home, so will publish some Musicscope. JoeWhip
Gave it a listen too. Seems to be well recorded with good musicianship but not my thing. Not the type of thing I would listen to more than once. of course, YMMV! Link to comment
