Have been playing the "Out Here" album a little louder than normal and Owens' drum work is sending loud "thwacks" across the room in a way I've not enjoyed in a long time. He is absolutely killing those drums. This album recording is exceptional and is making listening a blast.

I just "discovered" two artists:

Edgar Knecht – Good Morning Lilofee

Xan Campos - Orixe Cero, Ectropía

Both of them are on Tidal.

FYI, I just talked about Knecht's latest album on my blog. You'll find a link here: http://musicophilesblog.com/2015/07/17/edgar-knecht-dance-on-deep-waters-transforming-folk-songs-into-jazz/

Great review.

I'm glad you are adding more Jazz to the blog.

You have no idea how obsessed I am with piano trios. My list of so long that it will take me a while to put it together (so I can post it here). I want to categorize it by how good the artist or album is (as opposed to just posting a huge list of groups\artist).

Well, I tried to put an organized list together but it was taking too much time, so I'm posting a huge list instead. This is a list of my favorite albums, the music I download to my phone and is always with me. I labeled (genre) these albums as Modern Jazz - almost all of them were released this century. Most of these are piano trios, but there are some quartets in there...and some duos (piano and bass).

And then some. I have a couple of playlists on Spotify and Tidal (as long as the one posted above) of trios that I have not been able to fully digest. I just clicked on a couple of songs, liked what I heard, and saved them to a playlist so I can go back and listen to the full album when I finally get a chance.

I suppose this helps answer Musicophile's question: It does seem that we are living in the golden age of the piano trio.

If not a golden age, it is definitely a great time for those who like to hear three dudes playing the piano, bass, and drums.

Musicophile,

Can I ask if you have it at 24/96 or red book? I suppose it was recorded at 24/96 although I see that one of the tracks is on the label's trio sampler album available at http://www.highresaudio where it is labeled as 192.

I bought it in redbook on Qobuz as I forgot to check out HRA. Silly me.

These are from "Contemporary Jazz". The albums are recent releases. Again, mostly piano trios with an exception here and there.

The artists on these two lists are included due to the fact that they are exceptionally talented (IMO), because they are playing original compositions, or because they were in the zone when they made these recordings.

While this may well be true, I failing to see now this would be in any way related to this thread. Care to explain?

While I love jazz , it is pure fantasy to think we are living in a golden age of anything jazz . Period.

I know says aren't everything , but give the album sales of one of the newer artists you mention .

Ah I agree, Jazz sales are horrible these days. This is why I am so glad that there are still so many great artists out there. Let's make sure we support them.

Well I'm basing my assessment on sales and sales aren't everything and not the sole determinant of whether we are in a golden age of a particular genre or sub genre of music .

There is some truth to your belief of the jazz piano golden age . Sales are just one factor .

Just because people aren't listening

doesn't mean it's not a golden age.

I have not kept up with sales figures. How are classical music sales compared to jazz?
