ssh
Did you run across any of the Purifi transducer implementations? I would love to hear your take on them if you did. SSH Link to comment
botrytis
I did. Color me not impressed. The ones I heard were stand mounts and they were all treble, no bass. Current: Daphile on an AMD A10-9500 with 16 GB RAM DAC - TEAC UD-501 DAC Pre-amp - Rotel RC-1590 Amplification - Benchmark AHB2 amplifier Speakers - Revel M126Be with 2 REL 7/ti subwoofers Cables - Tara Labs RSC Reference and Blue Jean Cable Balanced Interconnects Link to comment
PYP
Regarding Audirvana, I hope Grimm Audio's next software update for the MU1/MU2 will facilitate using Audirvana. Looking forward to your experiments and better understanding the benefits of headless applications. These details have yet to be determined, but if I had to guess I'd say yes. If Roon can be run on a Grimm, then Audirvana should have zero problems. It was a ribbon tweeter if I remember correctly. The room was 656 at AXPONA this year. My wife, who was with me, thought the midbass drivers were broken due to the way the suspension looks. I should have simply made my point: Purifi makes transducers; speaker makers build speakers using the drivers, therefore one implementation does not tell us about Purifi transducers. Researching/designing/building stuff is hard and deserves a full vetting. The real question is whether the measurements they show indicate something fundamentally better than other mid-range/woofer drivers in their price range. I've only seen one professional review of one implementation, but there might be many others... Fun trivia: My wife loves @DuckToller's dogs even though she has only seen photos (and we can conclude that she thinks, by extension, he is a good person). botrytis
What did people think of the Morel speakers. I am still up in the air about them. They are being built by Morel in Israel. These small floor standers will be 2K USD retail. They did have beautiful cabinetry. The stand mounts are 1200 USD the stands are 300 USD more. Sal1950
Thrilling news about Steven Wilson at the Munich High End show !!! This could be signaling the breakout of Immersive Music into High End audio. Wish I could be there. Jud 1 "The gullibility of audiophiles is what astonishes me the most, even after all these years. How is it possible, how did it ever happen, that they trust fairy-tale purveyors and mystic gurus more than reliable sources of scientific information?" Peter Aczel - The Audio Critic R.I.P. yyz
If a headless server is one that does not have a mouse, keyboard, or monitor then that is what I have for my ROON Core setup. A $500 Dell computer that automatically starts up each morning at 7AM and shuts down at 2:30AM. I have the DELL under a bed in the guest bedroom. I RDP into the server if I ever need to reboot the machine (sometimes on ROON updates). I use fibre optic for streaming so whatever cheap component resides before the fibre does not matter, at least to my ears. That ROON Core serves up 3 ROON Endpoints perfectly. Convolution filters will also stream perfectly, though I am not currently using any. BTW - I heard the new RAAL 1995 Immanis and Magna headphones that were at Axpona with both the RAAL VM-1a amp and a SS amp. Wow is all I can say. I am selling some gear to raise money and get in line. Link to comment
Popular Post mr_bill
I wonder how many older audiophiles (I'm older) are getting to the point where they: A. don't want so many boxes B. don't want to have to deal with a computer when running your system C. useing your phone to operate your system - I do have an Auralic Aries 1.1 streamer but I will put up with that but don't want to have to usee my phone all the time to operate my system other than the streamer. D. are getting sick of integrateds or pre/power amp that have room correction, digital complicated displays btw - I am ok with a remote control for source and volume!
