Speaking of a series and affordable prices, I have completed my other "Art if the Trio" collection through Presto's 'Early Music' sale (ending soon). London Baroque has done a series of albums featuring the development of the 'trio sonata' by country and century. An excellent survey which has enriched my appreciation of a musical form of which I am quite fond. I had the 17th century series to which I added the four releases from the 18th century. Popular Post Musicophile
Bruckner: Symphony No. 7 - Karajan - Warner Classics remaster I only very recently discovered this 2014 remaster of this Karajan classic, which sounds really a bit better than my old CD rip. Still listening to this streaming in 16/44 from Qobuz, considering either buying the 24/96 (only 5.99 with Qobuz sublime, a steal), or simply upgrading to Qobuz Sublime+. In any case, this is a legendary recording really worth having. http://www.qobuz.com/fr-fr/album/bruckner-symphony-no7-edition-studio-masters-herbert-von-karajan/0825646244348 Guidof and crenca 2 Check out my blog at musicophilesblog.com - From Keith Jarrett to Johannes Brahms Link to comment

What do you think? [...] This is just off the top of my head: I'd say the performance on seem a unstructured and a little messy. Certainly not like those in the videos you posted on the Song of the Day thread. Don't know enough about this time period to say how it's supposed to sound though. And the mass movements seem to be stylistically very different from the rest. Again don't know if it's supposed to be like that. christopher3393 1 Link to comment

How was it to listen to these "in a row" ?Thanks. Thanks for the interest and I’ll offer what I can with the provisions that my system is mid-fi at best and I have a limited frame of reference for alternative recordings that may be better choices sonically and artistically. London Baroque is a well-established ensemble founded in 1978 and an extensive discography while maintaining a busy concert performance schedule. The works chosen on these discs are well chosen to represent the trio sonata as realized by both major and minor composers. While I am not addressing what I can’t speak of with confidence; “Are these well recorded?” and “Are the performances realized true to the composers score?” These matters are above my skill set but what for me was the invaluable merit of this series was the sense of historical context that I gained in listening to the evolution of the trio sonata in four countries as European music transitioned from Baroque to Classical. The booklet that accompanies each disc is a bit of a disappointment. While I didn’t expect a scholarly treatise, I had hoped for a bit more from the insert. All said, I don’t know if you will be pleased with the soundstage or the artistic execution but I am pleased to have collected these eight works for the enjoyment they have brought me while enhancing my awareness of the larger picture in this chapter of musical history. christopher3393 and AnotherSpin 2 Primary System: HTPC (Win 10, 64) > Synology DS212j > JRiver MC 22 > Uptone Audio Regen Amber > Schiit Bifrost Uber 4490 > Marantz SR7010 with Marantz UD5005 > Aperion Intimus 6Bs (LR) + Intimus 5C + 4 Intimus 4BPs (Surround) + 2 Bravus 12s - Display: Samsung 55" KS9000 - Headphones: AKG Q701.
