Understand it or not, pick the one you want :~) Founder of Audiophile Style | My Audio Systems Link to comment
joelha
Here's one businessman's possible explanation: There's a lot more labor to produce a version which will likely sell far fewer units than the other versions as not many people have 12 channel Atmos systems yet. And, given the considerable price of entry, a lower album price likely won't change the number of prospective customers for now. If you've invested in the hardware, you're more likely to buy the software. Joel botrytis 1 Link to comment

retro
Quote DXD discrete channels WAV 7.1.4 immersive - This is the holy grail of music playback. I have this version and can say that there's nothing like it on Earth. This consists of 12 channel WAV files for each track, at 24 bit / 352.8 kHz. No decoder required to play these files. As long as one has 12 channels for playback, or wants to downmix them into a different configuration, the WAV files will play. I play this through JRiver and Audirvana, Roon doesn't support these files yet. Below is a screenshot of what this looks like in Audacity :~) Fantastic, but only for Mac, right? No software atm for Win that can handle 8+ channels afaik...?? Jriver, wake up..😉 Link to comment

There is no such limitation now. I never knew there was one previously either. FLAC is limited to 8 channels, without special encoding like Auro, but WAV isn’t. I mixed things up. Again..😎 Link to comment

Jriver, wake up..😉 Jriver can do 8+ channels with the proper hardware. The channel selection drop-down lists formats up to 40 channels. Why do you think it is restricted? But a mkv-container with both video and 8+ ch audio will not play and gives an error message. @El Guapomade a couple of Atmos decoded 12ch mkv's which I posted links to on JRivers forum. They do not play under Win, but work on Mac and Linux. Hendrik is aware of the problem, so it's likely a LAV-decoder issue. Didn't seem to put it on top of his list though.. Check these threads on Interact. Feel free to bump them to get Hendrik's attention. https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,132607.0.html https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,132865.0.html Link to comment

OK but that proviso was not in the statement to which I responded. JoeWhip
I agree. Sounded great. So did the Bifrost2/64. If get into headphones one day, I will get that DAC and the Lyr 3 which can be used without a toob. The Folkvanger gets pretty hot. Link to comment
DigiPete
I always bought the disks from 2L, ripped it an enjoyed access to all those formats. It always baffled me, that a download (of all the same files as on the disk(s) ) would cost vastly more. I just buy a stack of disks at a time and rip and save the entire ISO as well as the file formats interesting to me atm. Oh, and go to 2L shop Promise Pegasus2 R6 12TB -> Thunderbolt2 -> MacBook Pro M1 Pro -> Motu 8D -> AES/EBU -> Main: Genelec 5 x 8260A + 2 x 8250 + 2 x 8330 + 7271A sub Boat: Genelec 8010 + 5040 sub Hifiman Sundara, Sennheiser PXC 550 II Blog: “Confessions of a DigiPhile” Link to comment
