Why Do People Come To Computer Audiophile To Display Their Contempt For Audiophiles?

Thats more common than, for example, certain people who denigrate audiophiles as "suckers" as a way to make themselves appear more "on the know" -- that's less common

Exactly. I don't see a lot of folks coming to this site to do this.

Helpful, yes.  I do think there’s been a proliferation of the “audiophiles are suckers” meme lately.

Interesting. I haven't really noticed this. In my experience, people like this soon move on so perhaps I just filter them out...

To me an anti-audiophile is someone who attacks a regular Joe's views, including mine. They are a minority here but can usually be identified by the person telling Joe that he's wrong, or Joe don't know what he's talking about, or knows nothing about technical matters.

Do you mean posts like this?

Yes, it could be seen as that, but AJ tends to take it to a whole next level,

Why don't you just add him to your ignore list?

Again, this is a thread which is focused on why people need to show contempt for audiophiles - and that's why I'm mentioning here; my thoughts on AJ are irrelevant elsewhere on CA.

I don't see how your thoughts on AJ are relevant to this topic. As far as I can tell, he is mocking your beliefs and approach to the hobby, not the fact that you are an audiophile. In other words, just more objectivist-subjectivist bickering.

If he asked for your opinion would you be fake or honest?

I actually respect someone more that will be honest than fake.   People that are fake just avoid confrontation...it takes more courage to be honest, but still sensitive to their feelings.  People should understand that no one is perfect and that there is nothing wrong with differences of opinion.  If everyone  thought this way, then people wouldn't be so sensitive to criticism, and could learn more and be more productive and knowledgeable.  I value honesty over non-confrontational.  I also realize that many people value non-confrontational over honesty.  I understand that more people look at life from that angle, and that I am a minority in this regard...but i still believe my thinking is better.  WWJD.  I think there is a fine-line of being honest yet sensitive, and that if you are not willing to be compassionate and take the time to show sensitivity with your honesty, it's probably better to just lie...but the best answer is honesty with sensitivity.

Not a bad way to conduct yourself on this forum...

I've learned the hard way and now will never buy music that I don't like because it was "well recorded."

+100

I've spent way too much money on "audiophiles favorites" that are gathering virtual dust on my hard drive.

But that's how digital sound degrades. Play them once in awhile to keep them clean.

Now I'm confused. I seem to remember Sandy Alex saying that digital files deteriorate every time they are played. :)

Atoms vs bits, and Waaaaaaay Off Topic !

I diagree. The tendency of some audiophiles to invent "new science" to explain what they are hearing goes a long way to answering Jud's question.

Might this be an overgeneralization? And when you say "audiophile" are you usually including or excluding yourself?

Surely he is too clever to answer a trick question like this.

Of course not, that's just Scott's usual paranoid exaggeration. Yes, I did Down vote a number of his posts, for (IMO) rude behavior and ridiculous statements, in 'open' threads. So what, I get my share too. Is he too much of a snowflake to take it ?

And the 'stalking' thing is just a damn lie ! For well over a year, I have refused to click into any posts, in any thread started by wsgscot or esldude, much less post. I might see snippets in Unread Content, through.

To be honest, I did break my rule a week back in one of his 'troll trap' threads to add a link to a DAC review by G. Graves, I'd just seen and thought was a very good candidate for testing the question the thread posed. I made no comments and he totally misunderstood it, since he wasn't really interested in the question, but how he could control the outcome of the thread. Then later in the thread, DJ Soundfuck, posted so big a boo-boo, I couldn't resist the temptation to call him on it.

Yeah, my bad, I guess. I've meant to PM Scott explaining all this, but didn't get around to it til just now, when it became unavoidable.

All just tawdry shit  :( move on...

P.S. he has done his share of stalking of me BTW, adding a bunch of distracta-posts to those of esldude's in one situation.

Festivus isn't until December...

Well this is hardly Shakespeare.

You just appear to have a dislike for so many people on the thread, and concerned as I am about being with the “in crowd,” it seemed to me I’d be stuck with a rather small, lonely group if I were one of the few you didn’t ignore.

I don't know what the circulation figures say, but I personally stopped reading the reviews long ago and only glance occasionally at the mags, usually to see whether there's any music being reviewed that I'm not familiar with and looks interesting.

This is what I do as well. I have digital subscriptions to Stereophile and TAS and flip through them every month to look for new music to buy. Hi-Fi News out of the UK also has good music reviews.

I rarely, if ever, read an article unless it's focused on music or the making of music.
