HQPlayer's Network Audio Adapter

OK. Well turn both fire off, did not help. Yes, I can ping. And remember this worked with MicroRendu. In the "CMD window" I can see a new line every time I choose NAA in HQP, so someting is happening.

 

If there's just one line, then HQPlayer is not hearing the NAA's response...

 

Just want to make sure - you have only one network connection on both machines and both are connected to your normal home network?

Strange...I tested on Win10 using Asio4All with no issues last week. Maybe its the beta of HQP. Can you revert back to the stable release of HQP? Thats what I am using. Also, I just remembered that NAA needs IPv4 and IPv6 enabled. Can you check your adapter settings to make sure both are checked?

But Windows Server versions are not supported and not recommended. Those are optimized for data throughput at the cost of latency reliability and other things important for multimedia/desktop use cases.

 

I installed WS2012, through bootcamp on a mac mini. The mac only needs to run NAA. I thought WS2012 would be a better choise then OSX because I can run it in core mode with a minimum of processes running. Miska triggers me if I can really hear the difference between NAA on OSX and NAA on WS2012. Because the mini is dual boot i could easlily make a sonic comparison. Pitty of course that OSX doesn't support Native DSD.

Depending on your DAC, you could also try Debian/Ubuntu based NAA on the same hardware... You would get much more minimal OS that way. And you can install it on a USB stick (or possibly on SD-card), no need to put anything on the internal HDD.

I am using two systems

 

Win 2012 Server with Roon -> HQPlayer set to upsample all to DSD128 DoP -> NAA

Win 2012 Server with NAA -> Resonessence Concero HD (capable of 352,8 / DSD128)

 

The NAAA is started directly via exe.

Perhaps a silly question....why are you using DoP if your DAC supports DSD?

I will try the same without DoP.

 

DoP is used, because I think there is no other way to also activate the convolution engine in HQPlayer and to also control the volume via roon / tablet.

 

BTW, it definitely looks like something is wrong with your DAC driver. The networkaudio.exe window should show something like ASIO DSD Format available.

 

Looks like your DAC only support DoP?

 

I am also running NAA on Server R2 in Core mode with Audiophile Optimizer and Fidelizer. I am able to upsample to DSD256.

Yes, it doesn't support raw DSD, so you need to enable DoP from HQPlayer side.

 

Again no word regarding DSD128.

If you want to have DSD128 output, you need to enable DoP from HQPlayer settings and then switch output mode to "SDM (DSD)" and it should work just fine, 352800 PCM rate is enough to support DSD128 using DoP.

@sfox7076, is the NAA machine running WIN10 by any chance? If so I was having similar issues. When I first upgraded from WIN7 to 10, everything worked fine with the NAA then overnight I started having the same kind of errors you are seeing. I tried removing all WIN10 updates but could still not get NAA working properly again. I then went back to Server R2 and NAA has been working flawlessly since then.

Life is good now. For some reason when HQPlayer starts, the BBxM loses its connection with the iFi. All that is necessary is to unplug and replug something to get the BBxM to "see" the DAC with HQPlayer running. (In my system the easiest thing to do is unplug and replug power to the Regen between BBxM and iFi.) As I set up VNC to control HQPlayer on the desktop upstairs while listening to the main system downstairs, this is now easy and does not involve running up and down steps. :)

 

With the BBxM running from a battery and the Baaske isolator on the Ethernet connection between router and BBxM, there's now no noise, and the sound is very nice. (There was noise without the isolator, even running the BBxM from battery. Don't know why, but there was.) Can run at DSD256 even with the fairly old desktop machine, with only a very occasional hiccup that I can tolerate. Buffer's 100ms - for some reason both default and 250ms perform worse.

 

Heh, OK I'm impulsive. Enjoying some quiet music at home, but figured Gigabit Ethernet could potentially help with the few blips I'm experiencing. And really, these mini-computers are so darn cute.

 

Good enough for Sonore, good enough for me. Ordered a CuboxTV (quad core) on sale for less than the dual core. But I won't have time to play with it before Labor Day.

 

A few anecdotal things for whatever use they may be:

 

- The BBxM-as-NAA started disconnecting from the iFi again when HQPlayer started up, and I could not get it to reattach by disconnecting/reconnecting anything or assigning the BBxM an IP address. I suppose I should have tried giving it a name that HQPlayer could see, but the Cubox had arrived and I wanted to play with it.

 

- The Cubox running the NAA image works beautifully, never any problems with disconnection. Once in a great while HQP will only see the Cubox's internal DAC and not the iFi, but unplugging and replugging power to the Regen always cures that.

 

I am only able to run DSD128, not DSD256, and once in a while HQP stutters. This is not a network problem, as I tried the iFi directly connected to my desktop upstairs running Linux and it did exactly the same thing. I'm not at all sure why this is the case, since DSD256 was working a few weeks ago. I don't recall changing any settings. Strange.... So that's the bad news, but the good news is that the Cubox running the NAA image is not a limitation on the performance of the system.

It is a Win 10 computer. I have no access to Win 7 as I bought this as it was bought new. So, back to the drawing board I guess. LattePanda would be a cool choice to do this in the future. If W10 works.

I know other people have had success with NAA on Win10. Hopefully they can chime in too. Have tried uninstalling all updates?

Yes, many of us AO users are also HQPlayer users. They are a very nice combination. Phil has even worked with Jussi to create a nice HQPlayer shell option within the setup.

I also use AO with HQP. What's interesting is that Phil highly recommends Server R2 but based on some comments Jussi has made, it seems he is not convinced that Server is best for audio.

Thanks! I just discovered HQPlayer this week-end (been using JRiver and Audirvana+) and quite frankly I am amazed so far how good it sound! On my PC it sound better then JRiver and on my Mac mini it sound as good or even better then Audirvana with my DAC... So obviously I will continue to experiment with it. Just dont find library management very user friendly but I probably dont know how to do it properly. Right now just dragging each song one at a time!!!!

Mac Mini with Teradak supply running Audirvana+. Also have several PC based system running JRiver

And this is precisely why so many people use Roon with HQP. I hated spending all that money Roon but HQP sounds so good that it was worth it to have a much nice user interface.
