Popular Post AudioDoctor
Its a holiday weekend, I have some good single malt, and a new server to try out... This album is one of my favorites because it a) Has Mark Knopfler on it. b) Its superbly recorded. Despite having a DR of 4, it is one of a handful of my 16/44 albums that doesn't hit the limiter once in HQP nor does it require an apodizing filter. The counter stays at 0/0. and c) It sounds great with wonderful tone. clipper, The Computer Audiophile and LarryMagoo 2 1 No electron left behind. Link to comment

Happens a lot with Rock/Folk/Country/Blues types of music. 6 hours ago, semente said: Indeed, the DR meter is mostly useful only to compare different mastering versions of one particular album. Yes I know, I mainly wanted to head off any comments that it must be compressed to hell with such a low DR. No electron left behind. Link to comment
AudioDoctor
1 hour ago, firedog said: Roon is using a different measurement of dynamic range - R128 vs the more wildly quoted "Crest" method as used in Foobar -essentially average vs peak methods of calculation. The two methods aren't directly comparable number to number. So if you say it has a "DR of 4" that's sort of misleading, as most of us would assume you are reporting what the Foobar/DR database states as DR. Next time I will link to a page explaining this before I dare mention the dynamic range that's clearly visible in the screen capture included in my post. No electron left behind. Link to comment

Yes, I will do that instead of discuss the dynamic range of the album I am listening to. It was a 16 year old Lagavulin. Jud and austinpop 2 No electron left behind. Link to comment

And I am also pretty sure everyone here does not know every detail regarding music playback. AS I said, I only know what Roon was telling me. No electron left behind. Link to comment

Popular Post AudioDoctor
I don't even know the words to describe this album, just go listen to it. I streamed it on Qobuz after hearing a track on the radio. This is exactly why I listen to 89.3 The Current from MPR I am downloading it as I type this. It's powerful, honest, amazing, and beautiful. edit: Without a doubt, this is my Album of the Year so far. jiminlogansquare, christopher3393 and sphinxsix 1 2 No electron left behind. Link to comment

Although I am embarrassed to say how long it took me to figure out the album title is not “All Is On R Us Sell” I should have made clear that its Allison Russell, Outside Child. jiminlogansquare 1 No electron left behind.
