I set the memory there to 21,000MB when the problems I mentioned happened

that memory setting is the default one for what you have in your mac...

try 1024mb when you are upsampling and see

I moved the slider left to 1024 and played same piece of music.  Unfortunately, problem does not go away.  Well, I need to go to bed now.  Have a hectic schedule starting early tomorrow.  Thanks for all your suggestions though.  I learn a lot although problems have not been solved.

Anyone know If A+ can up sample albums at different rates for each album?

It could if you change your Upsampling settings for each separately :), but can't save those for them separately...

Reading the preceding posts regarding memory allocation, I was just curious to understand the behaviour of the memory allocation and the estimated time values.

If I slide the memory allocation bar to the right, I am allocating more memory to Audirvana, and the time underneath increases. That makes sense. However, as I keep sliding the bar to the right, the time value will go back to zero and start all over. As I am increasing the memory allocation, why would the time go back to zero?

I have included a video file to show what I mean.

Eh!! you found another bug... seems to happen at every 8gb around... 8 for me 16 for you... if i remember your movie. but... do you listen to your music sliding the cursor like that...

1072332811_ScreenShot2020-08-20at9_27_01PM.png.2cd85dfc6706ff2930a913ffa4afe632.png

For me you don't need to touch that memory slider when you are not upsampling...

Audirvana default leave around 2.5gb for system and the rest is just for loading the songs faster

in memory...

BUT, when upsampling, things are different... you are not playing bit perfect now...

and the computer has to work much differently depending on what you have...

my i5 2.5 works a lot if i want to upsample to my dac max (dsd128), the best ratio i found

for not seeing him working always without resting was to put the memory buffer at 1024mb...

nearly lowest... so when i was looking at activity monitor, to computer was able to work a bit...

sleep a bit, work a bit, sleep a bit... against work a lot longer before achiving a little rest with memory

left at default 13312...    that it is only when upsampling to DSD... if upsampling to PCM

i wouldn't have to touch memory buffer, computer handle it...

And, when playing bitperfect music with default Audirvana 13312 out of 16gb mac memory... loading songs pcm or native at dsd that i have... computer is loading in 2 seconds,

and sleeping nearly at 2% of CPU always...

You don't need a Ferrarri to play bitperfect music on a computer...

Let it slide alone :)

Ok, this is a rookie question for sure.  On my phone remote I view my library by artist, and a album image appears to the left of each artist.  On my mac-mini, i've been viewing my library by album, each album dislays its image above the artist's name, so i can get to what i want right away.  Last week, i decided to view my library on my mac-mini by artist instead of album.  The library displayed the artists by name, but no image is displayed above each artist's name.  I was expecting a similar image for each artist the way i see it on my phone remote, but instead there's an empty black circle.

Is this normal, or am I missing a setup somewhere?

The Mac program, the iOS iPhone app, and the iOS iPad app are completely different in some ways, including this. You may also notice that the iPad has both a portrait and a landscape view, and they're very different. The iPhone has no landscape view - and it really needs it as the width of the vertical iPhone is so small.

So is what I'm seeing on my mac-mini in library artist display mode, the black empty circles above the artist names, is normal?

No, sorry... I have problems on my iOS remotes, but not on the Mac itself. I would assume it's a network issue: is your Mini on wifi or wired Ethernet?

If you go to Preferences, and scroll all the way down, there are some maintenance functions. I'd try "Rebuild Indexes" (should be "Indices" but who's counting?)

My library is on my mac-mini, i'm not streaming anything.  I'll try rebuilding.. Thanks.

Rebuilding and defragging had no effect.  Does anyone else have any ideas on how to get my album image to show up in the library when "artist" is selected?

I posted this on Audirvana's community forum, but I was advised to try posting here.

I'm a new Audirvana/Qobuz user.

I just purchased a Audirvana license and have been really impressed with the sound quality. When I stream local files from my Windows 10 desktop hard drive to my PS Audio Directstream Bridge II, I don’t experience any problems other than a bit of a delay waiting for the music file to load. But it’s a very different story when I try to stream from Qobuz.

When I select albums from Qobuz I can usually (but not always) play the first track, and maybe select 2 or 3 other tracks, but I always must press the “stop” button before selecting another track. After playing at most, a few tracks, Audirvana freezes up, and I have go close the app and restart. The same thing happens if I play a track from one album and then try to play a track from a different album.

In the settings in “Device Name: DirectStream DAC”, I set the max rate to 24/96 with MQA off and no DSD, which I’d like to do, but can’t seem to get it to work. I played with the Max memory, but it doesn’t seem to help. I currently have it set to 555 MB

It’s a shame about Qobuz because I like its offerings, but not its integration with Audirvana. I’m on a 30 day trial.

When I stream using a USB connection to DirectStream everything works fine in both local and Qobuz, but the sound quality is so much better when I use the Bridge II connected to my Uptone Audio EtherRegen ethernet switch.

I received one ecommendation to increase my RAM from 4 to 8.

I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks!

Very general question:

On the Audirvana main page (library), it is very very slow to scroll the albums, and I get the spinning beach ball very often. If I am listening to music, it cuts out every now and then when it loads the albums / spinning beach ball.

I could live with it if it was only on Audirvana startup, but it happens consistently every time I am scrolling the library.

For me, it is the most annoying problem with Audirvana. Yes, there are feature requests I would like to see, and tweaks here and there, but this really makes it difficult to use Audirvana.

Is there anything I can do?

Audirvana version 3.5.40

MacOS 10.15.7

iMac Late 2015, 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5, 24GB RAM

Audirvana stored on SSD, music files on external HDD (usb 3.0)

I have tried usual troubleshooting: rebuild database, defragmemt

I have about 320 albums, mostly DSD

I have 13GB  allocated in Audirvana for pre-load, exclusive access, large core i/o , integer mode all set to ON

Any suggestions would be of great help. I would just like to be able to scroll the albums I have without it pausing every second and stopping the music currently playing.

Thank you!

Everything, hardware and so on, seems to be fine, but this is certainly not normal. You could try to copy a part of your music files to to your computer and then only scan those files and see if the problem persists. In your situation I would prefer to have a NAS with my music files on it. Good luck!

I’m having a weird issue which I can’t figure out. I have my pc connected to a Marantz av8805 via HDMI. All works well except for when I play stereo 192khz files.

When I select a stereo 192khz file the Marantz switches to it’s Heos streaming app to play the file. I’m not sure if it is because I have waspi selected instead of Asio? Or that I have it selected through the Marantz AVR (nvidia high definition audio) option. I do see the Marantz in there several other times as an option and wonder if that is reflective of all the hdmi connections and maybe I have to find the one where the PC is plugged in? I’m attaching a picture of what I see and hopefully this makes sense.

I also noticed an interger mode message scrolling along to the left of the song but didn’t catch the whole thing. Not sure if there is some setting that needs to be adjusted. But as soon as I select a 192 file on the hdmi input I hear a quick click then it goes mute.

I thought it would be helpful to post the debug log. And the scrolling message I receive is “unable to change integer setting”. I also can’t find the setting in the settings menu…

It turns out it was the artwork images in my music library folders. Some of them were quite large 20-30mb each, which made Audirvana super slow. I've reduced the artwork to 100kb - 1mb each, and it seemed to have resolved the issue.

Thanks for your input!
