Mytek Stereo 192

I also, have the code to convert .dff to the dcs spec and soon

HQPlayer does all the needed tricks on the fly for .dff and .dsf files. Either to dCS spec, to my own FourCC spec or plain byte stream (352.8/8).

Things work for my hardware, but I would really like to hear if things work on something else too...

But this real issue is why it has taken the pro gear manufacturers so long to cotton on to the fact there just might be a market out there for cut down simple to use versions of their products (along with non DAW playback solutions), for non audioengineering types :)

To report back my findings using the Mytek with Linux.

My unit arrived with the latest firmware (1.2.1) already installed.

USB1 port : works out of the box but of course is limited to 96kHz.

USB2 port : does not work, no Linux driver available

FW port: works with snd-dice driver which is still in development. After patching it automatic rate switching works as well.

So far I am a happy camper. Great device and works just great with Linux.

update:

DSD works as well using HQPlayer! There are additional clicks/noises when I play a SDS file, needs more investigation.

Are you saying a Linux server (alix, Auraliti, etc...realizing neither have fw as standard of course) sending DSDIFF across firewire works with the Mytek, or is it just PCM at this point?

For those commercial Linux servers to be able to play DSD files using the Mytek and firewire they would need:

- capable player software (of course)

- fw interface (you already mentioned that)

- fairly recent kernel with firewire sound support

- snd-dice driver with additional patch added to that kernel

With the hqplayer I am able to sent a true DSDIFF signal (dCS spec) over the firewire interface to the mytek.

With the help of Harald (Synfreak) I got the remote volume control working on the Mytek Stereo192-DSD. Just enable the remote on the front panel menu, then try different remotes. I tried everyone I had to no luck, so I asked Harald which one he used. He was lucky enough to grab a Loewes (EU) one and it worked right away!! So I downloaded some Loewes codes and voila!

I will listen to analog remote volume direct-to-amp later today.

In case anyone cares..here is Volume +

Yupp!

Isn't that cool?

Currently I'm "DSD-ing" away with some Tracks off of 'Thriller' ... yeah, THAT Thriller!

And the AP SACD Remaster of Cat Stevens 'Tea For The Tillerman' (even if "only" mastered/sourced from 48khz resolution ...).

I will comment more on my findings on the Mytek later, but so far this is ... so ... coooool!

Thanks to Michal, and also to Miska for letting me dig into a new world of fidelity!

Cheers + happy listening

Harald

I'm not sure what the wait time is for distributors like Vintage King. Seems like a month would be within reason, dunno. Mytek's US online store is quoting 3-4 weeks from an order today.

awhile (although my Antelope Gold took 600 hrs+). So far, the DAC (on things PCM) is a good performer, easily commensurate with its price (it's a bit veiled and bass shy, compared to my much more expensive Antelope Gold/Voltikus, for example). But I expect it to open up considerably over the next few weeks . On DSD, the performance is already nearly as good as the best native 24/192 PCM on my 2.5x-the-price Antelope setup. Again, I also expect that to improve.

Edit: Oh, and all this with a generic fw cable. My Granite Digital gold one (all of $35) arrives today. The current USB driver is still a little iffy, but Michal expects the update very very soon.
