Hello. I installed version 1.0.3 on my iPad, it keeps crashing. I uninstalled the app, restarted the iPad and installed it again, the situation is the same, crash after about 30 seconds,

Same happened to me when updating the app via App Store. One year old iPad 9.

Deleting the app and reinstalling solved the problem, after indexing library everything works well.

@mnuno10 … and the most important thing is that it’s impossible to select a Work of a certain Composer and obtain all the albums where that Work is played, neither is possible to obtain a list of Conductors, Artists, Solists involved in that Work from which I can choose the album … Classical music needs much more sophisticated searching/browsing criteria than other genres and this is where Minimserver intelligent browsing is really very useful … so why I wouldn’t use it?

As I write above - I uninstalled, restarted the iPad, installed and the crashes still continue, I can't even get to indexing the library

That's odd. Can you tell what device you are using and what is the OS version?

Yes, I understand that, and it is a totally valid use case.

But will always be a little confusing using the two ways of browsing, because synced items in the app are totally different from MinimServer ones. If you are in album/track details in "By Folder", when you tap an artist the app should open the "Synced Artist" screen or search/try to open that artist in the MinimServer?

Didn't understand. It happens the same on your iPhone 11?

It happens when you are doing some "especial" thing? Or it happen randomly?

In my case iPad with IOS 16.2 the app didn't open. I was touching the JPlay Icon, it started to open but immediately it was closing again. Reinstall and reboot helped.

I cannot find the “Synced Artist” screen but the “Search artist” option is there and it works

What I mean by "Synced Artist" is an local artist that show up in "My Library" -> "Artists" and "Local Network" -> "Artists". Basically artists that app "creates" when indexing/syncing local libraries.

If you open one of these artists it will not open the same screen as if you are navigating to "MinimServer" -> "All Artists" -> ARTIST in "By Folders" section.

Sorry, I don't know if I'm making myself clear.

Perfectly clear, thanks.

Now I need to play a little bit to get used to these browsing modes …

so at least a little progress - if I only have MinimServer and JPLAY femtoServer in the application libraries, the application is stable, if I add Qobuz it starts crashing and never finishes downloading Qobuz favorites. The 1.0.3 application behaves the same way for me on iPad and iPhone. The Qobuz account is valid and plays without problems on a desktop computer (outside of the main HiFi setup).

Can you enable logs, reproduce the issue and send us the log file?

Good news:  The new version has found the JRiver server, allowed me to index it, and has found it again over several iPad reboots and app restarts.  Because of that, I don’t have display anomalies with multi-disc sets.

Bad news:  Removing a server continues to crash the app.  Running an update also crashes out the app. In both cases, I am dumped back to the desktop.  In the latter case, I have to do a full scan in order to add a single album to the collection.  In the long run, that isn’t acceptable.

I know my use case isn’t typical. I have almost 23,000 albums and about 185k tracks in an aggregation of digitized vinyl, ripped CD’s, and downloads of various resolutions that I began accumulating almost 60 years ago. I also worked at a company that markets digitized music and it was easy to obtain music from my employer at a good price, as well.  So my library is pointlessly huge. I have upgraded thousands of MP3’s by replacing them with larger and higher resolution FLAC and DSD’s.  To be certain, I am more of a music hoarder than collector, but, in any event, I acknowledge that indexing and managing my collection can’t be easy for a music manager app.  In fact, JPlay wouldn’t be the first such app that my library has brought to its knees.  With indexing occurring on the iPad in addition to the server, scalability in an app like this always is going to be an issue.  I hope JPlay can fix this, but I wonder to what degree we are bumping up against mobile device hardware limitations with a library of this size.  If I were Marcin and Mario, I would just take the position that the product isn’t intended for collections above a certain size and focus my attention on making the app work better for the 99% of the population with more manageable libraries.

Just a quick shout out to Marcin and Peter for the recent Jplay & Lumin updates. Jplay detects my X1 without issue now—thanks for that. I’m liking this app! It’s blazing fast and sounds better than any other control app I’ve tried. I can understand it sounding better than Roon due to all the network traffic that Roon requires but sounding better than Lumin’s app for example? I don’t quite understand that. Even more weird is increasing the update time in settings seems to sound better. Still experimenting with it but curious if anyone else has messed around with that setting and noticed any change in sound quality.

There’s some operational quirks with Jplay that I’m working through but I’m being patient and keeping an open mind. Overall, I like the layout of the app and find it easier to navigate than something like Lumin’s app. I also discovered that Jplay can open liner note pdf’s on my local network (minimserver /Synology NAS).

There’s a ton of potential here I think with this app.

As it happens, I had to assign my PC a new reserved IP address for reasons unrelated to JPlay. I didn’t think about JRiver’s connections on the network when I did this, but soon realized that I would regret moving JRiver from its former address, because JPlay once again isn’t discovering JRiver.

I acknowledge that it was my messing with the PC IP address that broke the connection between JRiver and JPlay, but it also broke the JRiver connections with Mconnect on iOS and with all the Android controllers on my phone.  Changing the address also disconnected Audirvāna from its controller on both iOS and Android and HQPlayer Desktop from HQPD Control on both platforms.  I am sorry to say that only JPlay failed to find the JRiver server after new scans or manual entry of the new IP address where required.

If JRiver pops up again in JPlay after a scan, I again will connect it, scan it, and hope it stays connected for as long as the PC remains on its reserved IP address.  In the meantime, I will revert to MinimServer with its oddball handling of multidisc sets and hope for a better day.
