Popular Post wgscott
It gets boring on Lithium Audio where everyone is required to agree with one another according to the User Agreement. Jud, jabbr, The Computer Audiophile and 2 others 5 Link to comment
Popular Post wgscott
There does seem to be an overall degradation of the quality of discourse, at least in the US. There is far too much emphasis on identifying with a team (or political party) and scoring cheap shots, and far too little honest deliberative discourse. I would much rather learn something new, rather than be right about some trivial point. There was a grain of truth in my earlier snarky comment -- those guys won't learn anything from each other because they are all in agreement. If you can learn something new and different from someone who has an opposite point of view, it seems like everyone comes out better for it. But you don't get that unless you have an honest exchange of viewpoints. Disagreements about facts are fine. Disagreements that come down to partisan identity BS gets us nowhere. That's why I find labels like "objectivist" or "subjectivist" counterproductive. Sam Lord, The Computer Audiophile, mav52 and 6 others 9 Link to comment

wgscott
One other thing is the "arguments" seem to be more intense and personal when debating phenomena with very small differences. Nobody seems to get worked up over whether two sets of speakers sound quite different. ShawnC 1 Link to comment

However, consider all the scientists and engineers who also believe in a higher power or god(s). Very inconsistent belief, but we don't throw out all their beliefs because of one belief. At risk of straying off-topic, in the case of scientists, that number is comparatively few (about 7% of the members of the National Academy of Sciences). In the (admittedly extreme) case of Francis Collins, it does make me worry about many of his other beliefs. Link to comment
