In the end, they may not even have the long term staying power of bubblegum pop from the 60's.

Simply not true. There are plenty of serious musicians and academics who think that some rap/hip hop qualifies as serious music.

When Kendrick Lamar won the Pulitzer, his direct competitors - the other finalists- all trained musicians from the "art music" world - were quoted as agreeing that his music was extremely sophisticated and belonged in the judging with theirs. They didn't at all begrudge him the prize.

Why do these Qobuz links never work for me? They only get me to the home page and then to the main account page. Not to the album.

Once you are subscribed I don't think Qobuz cares where you are. They give you the rights that are in the country you registered from. 

I'm in a country with no Qobuz at all, but am  registered at Qobuz USA. I can buy downloads or stream anything that is on Qobuz USA. With no VPN. From anywhere. 

Never had any problem with downloading a purchase or streaming music from Qobuz. Just have that funny behavior with the links - they only work if I'm already logged into my account and I have to do a search for the catalog number. The actual link doesn't work.

I've been a Jazz and Blue Note fan for decades, but of course wasn't a listener in the late 50's early 60's when all those classic albums came out. 

Never ceases to amaze me when Icome across another one I haven't heard and it is really good. 

The stable of musicians there put out so many good albums one after another. Speaks to their incredible talent. 

Too bad that at eh time they barely made any money. Those that survived into the late 60's and on started to make a real living, fortunately.

It's based on Bartok and done in jazz rock. Very good if you like the style. It used to stream on Qobuz, for some reason it's now "unavailable". So I bought the download, which is still for sale.

This is not bad at all. 

 

 

I've gotten used to modern volume compression sound over the years, and it usually doesn't bother me anymore.

But this thing is way up there (or down there) in VC - to the point where it sounds distorted....of course,  that's the probably the artistic intent.

Yes, I get that. But I'm not entirely convinced that the extreme VC on Morning Glory was entirely an "artistic" decision, and not just "lets make it louder than everything else".  Maybe that's not a real distinction, I sort of think it is. 

On this one, it seems to me they were purposely going for the sound of distortion.
