    Streaming Services Through HQPlayer Natively

I never thought I'd see the day. HQPlayer now offers native support for streaming music from Qobuz and HIGHRESAUDIO STREAMING. Wait, what!? Yes, Jussi Laako has added streaming services through the HQPlayer interface and it's glorious. Many in this community already discovered Jussi's holiday gift to music lovers worldwide, but incase you missed the full-court press by Jussi's PR team, marketing manager, and publicist, only kidding, I thought I'd write about it and how to enable it.

The information below is mostly available in the HQPlayer "really brief quick start guide" that nobody reads. OK, six of you guys have read it and the rest have no clue it even exists or where to find it. That's not a knock on anyone, I count myself in that group much of the time.

I've added some screenshots and a bit of information below.

    Requirements:

    1. HQPlayer 4 Client version 4.15 or higher, and one of the following

2a. HQPlayer 4 Desktop version 4.15 or higher, or
    2b. HQPlayer Embedded version 4.28

The HQPlayer website lists this streaming support under only the Desktop version, but it also work with the embedded version. The key is the Desktop Client software. This can run on any machine and doesn't require a separate Desktop license to connect to HQP Embedded.

Enabling Qobuz in HQPlayer is very easy. Make sure either HQP Desktop of Embedded is up and running on any computer on your network. Open the HQPlayer 4 Client that's included with the HQPlayer Desktop application download. GO to the Album View and click the dropdown arrow to display Qobuz. If you can't find album view, look on the edge of the window for options like Play View, Transport View, Album View. Click through them and you'll find what you need.

    HQPlayer Select Qobuz.jpg

Selecting Qobuz bring up this screen where you login.

    HQPlayer Qobuz Login.jpg

After login you'll see this success screen. Click the Back button in blue.

    HQPlayer Qobuz Login Success.jpg

You'll be presented with your Qobuz favorited albums by default. As seen here.

    HQPlayer Qobuz Initial Screen.jpg

Clicking the right hand dropdown you can see the Qobuz options.

    HQPlayer Qobuz Interface Dropdown Selection.jpg

One option that isn't in that list is search. To search Qobuz from within HQPlayer, I selected My Favorite Albums, then put my cursor in that box immediately after the word Albums. Then I deleted the text and entered my own search criteria. Here you can see my search for Neil young.

I'd love if there was an option to select search that cleared the search box automatically, but I can live with this for now.

    HQPlayer Qobuz Search.jpg

Here's a screenshot of playing an album from Qobuz to my HQPlayer Embedded server. It's really nice and full of more information that I expected.

    HQPlayer Embedded Qobuz.jpg

Here's a screenshot of my HQPlayer Desktop version, while streaming a different album from Qobuz. Nothing special, but I want to show it so people can see. More information is available here than when streaming from Qobuz to HQP through Roon.

That's it for this glorious holiday gift from @Miska. I know many people who can now use HQPlayer as their sole user interface for playing music. It's pretty cool to have this as an option. Options are good.

I’m not able to scroll my playlist (Qobuz) in the HQplayer client.

Has anyone else found same issue ?

    Edit:

My bad. I don’t have enough playlists to be able to scroll 😀

So I’m trying to switch between HQplayer and Roon by using Sonore Audio App Switcher.
This wasn’t as easy as expected. Loosing connection with the HQplayer client and almost impossible to reconnect.

Switching between Roon with HQplayer as endpoint vs Client and HQplayer embedded works a bit better.

The little I have been able to test, I can’t say I’m able to hear any difference between the 3 possible SW options using Qobuz.

There also seems to be a small difference in volume, that probably will affect how I perceive the SQ.

Does this enable full library integration (like in Roon)?

I am referring to the fact that in Roon you see 1 library that consists of content from both local and streaming and you can play any combination of content, rather then limiting it to either local or streaming

In HQPlayer Client local and streaming libraries are separate.

Good idea! I am not seeing anybody else having this issue, got to be on my end. I appreciate you being available in the office today! 😉

You are not alone. Same problem here. After stopping I can often manually restart playback. When my playback chain is Qobuz-Roon-HQPlayer the same album play without interruption.

If you're using a Sonore (as I do), setting it to MPD/DLNA mode and using a DLNA player like BubbleUPnP for Android works fantastically well with Qobuz. Sound quality is sky high and leaves the other streaming services behind.

@bogiThanks for referring me to Johnseye's post, it worked immediately. Seems I was missing the File -> Library -> Scan step.

I'm not fan of that behavior. I think it makes things look messy when multiple streaming service and my local library contains same stuff.

This is great news for HQPlayer - when will other streaming services be included, e.g Tidal?

    Uuuaaahh.

    Please don't include Tidal and it's MQA scam/dreck 🙄😇

    I have this working, but

when I pull up a playlist, it plays the first  song, advances to the next song, and stops.. sometimes. I have to hit play to get it going again and when that happens  it goes back to the first song in the playlist and plays it again, and then sometimes it goes to the next song and plays it

    ????

While waiting for HQPD or another IOS way to be able to control HQPlayer remotely, I am trying to use Splashtop which allows remotely controlling the desktop. It’s free to do so if the devices are in a shared network, so it works perfectly. I could use in both iPhone and iPad. I will try it this for a few days to see if this can replace my Roon completely :)

    @Miska

Is it possible to have HQPlayer as an Qobuz Audio Output?

That way I can just select HQPlayer from within Qobuz and be done with it.

    Regards

The Qobuz desktop app doesn't have UPnP functionality, or it would be entirely possible.

I just purchased HQPlayer, and the Qobuz option doesn't show up for me at all. I use Qobuz through Roon, but still, it's a bit of a disappointement

    HQPlayer 4 Client

You need to use the Client in addition to the regular HQP (with networking turned on) you are running and add either local host or address of your server; the pick Qobuz in the library drop down. Have you done that?

Done that (it's localhost). The drop-down doesn't show Qobuz. Both apps are open, and networking is on, as I've been using it with Roon.

I don't know why it works the way it does, but add an album or all of them if you want, to HQP and then you should see Qobuz appear as an option.

For me, it sometimes takes a bit to "find" the server. Open and close it a couple of times. Or maybe try server and put in the ip and see what happens.

Ok, I found the problem. I didn't realise that you had to actually click on the side bar which says "Album view".

Yeah, that threw me for a loop when I first started using HQPlayer. Its quirks are worth it though, imo.

edit: You can also get to the pages with the "1" "2" and "3" keys on the Client.

Yeah, the interface isn't exactly intuitive. I did think of mentioning that to you, but I didn't want to sound condescending.

It took me a few tries to figure it out when I first used it.

Ha. No worries about that. I'm at that age where my teenage daughter is doing more sophisticated things with her iPhone than I knew were possible. Given that I'm the only person in the house that knows how to decipher USB connections correctly, and have probably forgotten more about computers than they collective know, that's rather embarrassing.
