Popular Post rando
Minnesota Orchestra at One Hundred: A Collection of Recordings and Broadcasts, is a self released box set that features performances by every music director/conductor but the very first. That places the recorded material back as far as 1924. All material on the first six discs, of twelve, was remastered by Seth B. Winner. At least for me this was more exciting than the much easier route comprised entirely of Dorati etc. Tonight I will be digging into Disc 1 containing the very earliest selections conducted by Henri Verbrugghen and Eugene Ormandy. Also managed to collect the subsequently released book "Minnesota Orchestra at One Hundred: A Collection of Essays and Images" to peruse while listening. Front cover in person is a stunning scan of original orchestra in their first hall seated before a large forest painting. Photos are hard to come by so I'm adding a video for those unaware of Mr. Winner's long career at the MET and on other delicate reconstructions. christopher3393 and semente 1 1 Link to comment

Emma started lessons at age four... In August 2009, Emma was invited to participate in the Gabala International Piano Festival in Azerbaijan. At six years of age, Emma was youngest pianist invited to play in this festival. Emma did very well at the festival and was one of two participants in the festival invited to play at Steinway Hall in New York City. Emma released her first self produced CD, Emma: Age 6," in 2009. To relieve you of wondering why I chose to post this and where the young woman is today. Not how voluminous her discography is today. At 16 she is spending her Summer as a soloist in concerts with the Minnesota Orchestra. Having just recently ingested the history of this musical institution, quite heavy on children's concerts and musicians in the schools, I can only be glad of her having an escape into this body of adults well versed at nurturing young musical minds minutes from home. coot and The Computer Audiophile 1 1 Link to comment
rando
Two things stood out to me about this album. The (normal sized front of case) booklet was among the nicest full color, good paper stock, I've encountered. Secondly, how intuitively these works had been composed to speak to a Midwest audience. rando
@coot these organ duos/trios have really grown on me since coming across the ages old Cellier pan flute and organ recording. By no means are they every day listening material. The coordination required makes them quite special 'recitals' in my mind that are worth owning. Having seen the coordination and mastery of repertoire these twin sisters exhibit playing separate grand pianos. It is also quite extraordinary. coot 1 Link to comment
Popular Post rando
Unexpectedly the booklet pegged this as a children's album. As promised, there were no scary heart leaping out of your chest moments to disturb. Only intentionally triggered 5 second reverberations. phosphorein and coot 2 Link to comment

rando
I started listening to this Conifer (Possible NSFW photo link - certainly hard to look at but not exactly NSFW) despite overcoming some heavy visual resistance to what was about to be depicted. Afterwards I picked up what I believe is the gold standard recording of the full Dardanus. Which specifically held none of the threat Platée did. Link to comment

rando
@WAM including gold rimmed Rochefort chalice was a nice touch. If only the combined Kardashian family had a sliver of the talent on offer here. One can only imagine the pain she's suffered. Link to comment
rando
At least JM was afforded the luxury of avoiding an infamous contemporary. Try imagining the long reaching impact being named Justin Bieber would've had on your own professional career. You'd be a laughingstock. Link to comment

One more reason to focus on music you enjoy instead of distractions that easily capture the weak minded. Album of the morning. Link to comment
rando
Stämningsfullt - Mariakören Recorded in the Hässleholm kyrka (church) using its Marcussen Organ. 1 2 played by the church's organist Birgitta Roslund. A recent performance of The St. John Passion with Stockholm Bach Society and Mariakören Not that anyone here would ever consider condemning the actions of hardworking performers commissioning new works and actively issuing self recorded albums merely focused on the continued health of music within their own small community. Attempting to force me into defending an album choice by derision and incisively negative portrayals of everyone from myself through the person who dared record and master such an abortion of sounds. rando
Granted this was buried pretty deep for a good long time. Making it realistic to imagine it's not his best. Still it finally decided "Ambassador Satch" is sticking around while any others matching the description of Jazz are leaving my collection. Just not music I can find ways to enjoy. The film looks... interesting. Might watch it before erasing this soundtrack for good. Link to comment
rando
From linked review, "Les Siècles, which I now very much see on track to become one of the most important French orchestras, particularly for French composers " Quite, lesser known French conductors and material in particular. Which may be concert repertoire only these days. Musicophile 1 Link to comment
rando
First off this is excellent. Second I've been wracking my brain who posted this here if anyone at all. Search has been no help which leads me to believe they wished to share it with those here instead of making things easy for the all seeing SEO. Musicophile 1 Link to comment
