The Computer Audiophile
I love it @JoeWhip! A very honest take on your immersive audio experience. I love that you we're afraid to say the streaming Atmos version of some albums is better than the high resolution lossless stereo versions, and vice versa for others. That's real life, not some artificial writer's world where everything is always the best ever. Founder of Audiophile Style | My Audio Systems Link to comment

bobfa
@JoeWhip I enjoyed reading about your system process (and the financial management). I want to note that ATMOS automatically adapts to your system design/speaker layout. The Computer Audiophile 1 My Audio Systems Link to comment

Popular Post ted_b
@JoeWhipwelcome to the immersive audio experience. It is very important to have you onboard, as there needs to be more and more discerning ears listening to this stuff. When done right it is an amazing experience, and the sphere (ok, half sphere) of sound allows for several types of Atmos (and lets not forget my favorite, Auro-3D) mixes, each one, whether ambient or adventurous, bring out new musical discoveries...even if you've heard the music a million times before. Also...does anyone notice that we are not all worried that 24/48 (even compressed) is a lowly sample rate, clearly out-sampled by all the stratospheric rates of their stereo counterparts? Nope! The additional real estate that immersive mixes give you allow for musical information to breathe, decay, resonate and image like never before. Subtle cues or bombastic cacophony, these musical details are all unearthed in good immersive mixes. (Note: Auro-3D is 24/96 and slightly more resolving than Atmos, but the codec is less ubiquitous than Atmos, especially here in the US). Net/net, great article! Popular Post JoeWhip
Yes, only 24/48. It is amazing how great movies have sounded for years even before Atmos at even 20/48. The quality of the engineering is what is important, not the numbers game. The Computer Audiophile, bobfa and ted_b 3 Link to comment
botrytis
@The Computer Audiophile I saw a great TV show (PBS Now Hear This) series on Andy Akiho, who has/is performed and composed some interesting Modern Classical pieces. I think some of these would be really interesting to hear in ATMOS theatre setting. They already do videos to the pieces. botrytis
10 minutes ago, The Computer Audiophile said: Absolutely! I get surround. I did 5.1 Audio when people thought we were really on drugs. I still have some all of my DVD-A discs (Nothing is as crazy as Night at the Opera by Queen - In surround - it is awe-inspiring) as well as some good concerts. SO I have a start, but I am not sure I want to go as WHOLE HOG as you have (admiration, really). So maybe a NEW TV and the Devialet Soundbar. My wife was cold on the idea, now she likes the soundbar and may even want a surround system (I have created a monster). Now I would have 2 separate systems. I am fine with that. botrytis
Dang, I just wanted to add one more post in 🤣 Actually, I just remembered. I still have an old 43" Pioneer Plasma TV in the basement. I think it is time to pull it out. I am planning to put in my office above the RELs...... My self portrait would have to be moved (as my wife calls it). JoeWhip
Considering Hiw inexpensive flat screens are, you may want to consider one of those rather than that Pioneer plasma. Easier to hang on the wall and generates much less heat. My old Kuro gave off so much heat in my smallest room, watching for hours in the summer was problematic. It also weighed a ton. R1200CL
……I still have 60” Kuro. 500 to 600 power draw. I’m considering LG gallery edition 83” when Black Friday comes. This new micro led technology seems promising. So maybe other options as well but, I expect micro led to be to expensive this year. Link to comment
JoeWhip
I think micro LED is the future. Will wait until it is more mature and less costly. I can’t imagine a picture better than my 83” OLED but I thought that before! Link to comment
