How To Install HQPlayer Embedded On Ubuntu

I am enjoying the Embedded OS with JPLAY OS for Qobuz and minim server for my local files. 
   My question regarding licensing/fingerprint- When I bought my license for the embedded version I was using my SoTM usb card. Later I switched it out to a Ethernet card. I noticed the OS reverted back to trial. I had to ask for a new key!  
    Finally to my question- if I were to revert back to using usb would I be able to switch back to my original key (when using usb and vice versa to my ethernet card? Or do I need to buy Dongle?

You may need to ask for an updated key. But if you are not changing hardware frequently, this is not a problem.

 

USB dongle is useful if you like to frequently change your hardware.

your instructions worked fine but finally I got stuck when I realised that it wouldn't work for ARM-based single board computer. I recently bought a Orange Pi 5 Plus (which is ARM-based) and started my first steps into Linux.

Is it possible to install hqplayer onto Orange Pi  5 Plus and are there instructions similar to those at the beginning of this thred?

 

Any help appreciated

The arm64 bookworm package should work fine if you can install Debian 12 "bookworm" on that hardware.

 

Please remember that ARM hardware is not like PC hardware where you have standard means of booting, detecting connected hardware, etc... Instead, on ARM the OS must always specifically support a certain SoC model and the board design. The OS has otherwise no way of knowing what hardware exists and how things are connected to each other.

It is simpler than that. You just download and "sudo dpkg -i" install the libgmpris package first, and then hqplayerd package.  This will produce list of dependency errors, which you can solve by running "sudo apt install -f". Then enable and start the service with "sudo systemctl enable hqplayerd ; sudo systemctl start hqplayerd". And you are done, and ready to configure it through the web interface!

This is old version not available anymore for download. 5.5.1 is the latest one...

I followed your instructions but at the very end hqplayer didn't appear under hqplayer.local.😕

 

Maybe I took the wrong debian-version? The only debian-version which runs on Orange PI 5 Plus is "Orangepi5plus_1.0.8_debian_bookworm_server_linux6.1.43.img" which I could download at the Orange Pi website:  https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1I_asEsyjMf_nixpymLdco7SCxr9AveYH   but I'm not shure, if it's debian 12.

 

When I tried other official Debian 12 bookworm releases, Orange Pi 5 Plus didn't boot.

Any idea to find the right release for Orange Pi 5 Plus?

also entering the web interface is very tricky. http://hqplayer.local:8088 don't work at all. Only http://192.168.178.38:8088 works.

You need to set your login credentials first. Only HQPlayer OS has default web interface credentials. On regular distributions you need to define those first through:

"sudo hqplayerd -s username password" where "username" and "password" are the ones you'd like to use.

Then restart the service with "sudo systemctl restart hqplayerd".

Usually when previous LTS becomes officially upgradeable to the new one. Which is usually the first point release. So 24.04.1.

 

As @stefano_mbp said, it is couple of months from the initial release. It also means that support for 22.04 will be dropped at the same point. So I don't want to rush it, it is every two years process anyway. Ubuntu LTS is the relaxed stable way, and Fedora is the bleeding edge (with the associated challenges).
