Rexp
Searching Tidal for good remasters of old analog recordings is rather like looking for needles in haystacks. But I just came accross an obscure record label called Black Barn Music who seem to specialise in compilation albums, two examples below. Please take a listen, especially analog fans @AudioDoctor @GUTB and see if you agree these digital albums sound analog! https://tidal.com/album/128719187 https://tidal.com/album/123552745 Ps if you haven't got Tidal hifi subscription, you can download from their store cheaply. Norton
Agree it does sound good (on Qobuz) but bizarre title and cover (afternoon tea maybe) not that I would put most of the tracks in the category of likely music to accompany Mother’s Day tea, especially not Shostakovich 6. No notes, but I’m guessing transfers of out of copyright analog tracks? Cleaned up needle drops maybe? Link to comment

Yeah, it appears to be another one of those European public domain "labels". Many of the tracks are credited to the “St Petra Russian Symphony Orchestra” which has quite a few albums on Qobuz. Just listening to Swan Lake which sounds good too. Interesting to find out who actually performed and recorded these. Link to comment
AudioDoctor
I could not find that exact album on Qobuz but I am listening to the St Petra Russian Symphony Orchestra's Beethoven 5th Symphony right now. It sounds different that's for sure. I don't know what I am hearing here. No electron left behind. Link to comment
Sonicularity
What is digital done right? Is there any technical descriptions, or is this purely a gut feeling? John Dyson 1 Link to comment
Ralf11
digital done right sounds analog so, it is thus a sensation, or a perception or an expectation overlaid on an enigma wrapped in a riddle (for Tchaikovsky's music at least) Ralf11 1 Link to comment

fas42
"Digital done right" just ticks the boxes - if some vocals happen, a trumpet plays, a cymbal crashes hard, the string section in an orchestra just oozes honey out - everything works ... intense, life-like, zero edginess, fully satisfying to listen to, for however long you want to immerse yourself in the sound ... no excuses have to be made for aspects of what you're hearing, ever ... CatManDo
This recommendation is so random, that's why I assumed you were promoting your label. There are thousands of great digital reissues of analogue recordings available. You make it look like your two links were some kind of rare gem. I'm pretty sure the person who released these has never seen the original tapes. Ralf11 1 Claude Link to comment
