Out of interest, has anybody been in communication with Paul over the last month?

The last couple of emails I've sent asking for a quick update regarding completion/delivery of an SR4 purchase from the November batch haven't had replies.

I know he's got a lot going on in both his professional, and from what I gather, personal life but I wouldnt mind knowing what's going on.

Cheers

I too am waiting for two SR4's from the November batch.  Not much of a consolation I know, but it is sometimes good to know it is not just you.  I had an email from Paul earlier in the month, he expects to be fully back on track with the SR4's in February, so it should be a relatively short wait from now.

Thanks for your reply as it does offer the peace of mind that nothing dramatic is going on (just a succession of minor setbacks I imagine) and that I'm not the only one a little in the dark!

Anyone know where your order would end up now (March, April, May, ...) if you would order today and which months batch SR4’s he is sending out right now (if any)?

Same question. I’m awaiting a reply to an email to Paul sent the other day.

Btw, any thoughts about whether to go with the copper or silver cable? My interest in the SR4 is to hook into an iFi SPDIF iPurifier. It’s on the end of a beautifully warm Purist Audio Neptube coax run from a modified Oppo 203 to a DirectStream dac. The iFi connection requres a micro USB connector, which I’d need for the SR4 cable or have to go with the cheap adapter I have now (2.5 mm to micro USB adapters are not readily available). For the moment, I have an old Audio Tech Kora LPS hooked to the iFi, which is both telling me the SQ possibilities of a better LPS, while also the potential downside of the wrong one - much less warmth and a dry sound that make everything seem like it was tuned in a different key.

I cannot answer the above question, but as a bit of a clue I can advise that I ordered my SR4's in early October, they were in the "end of November" batch, due for delivery early December.  I am still waiting .......

😁 Yes, it is indeed a bit of a woo hoo moment!  I ordered them in October, thinking they would be a nice Christmas gift to myself.  Five months later and they finally arrive.  Anyway, I am very much looking forward to trying them at the weekend.  Once they have had some time to settle in, I will post any listening impressions that I have versus the sPS-500 which is currently (accidental pun) powering my SOtM kit.

Nice to hear Paul is clearing back orders. I’m on the April list...and hoping. In the meantime, I’ve been surprised how well a Core Audio Tech Kora LPS that I formerly used on my desktop system with a JCAT card has done powering an iFi spdif iPurifier between a modded Oppo 203 and a Directstream dac.

@Confused, burning the SR4 now?

I certainly hope not, they are still in their shipping boxes.🤐

Joking apart, I will be setting them up later this afternoon.

Confused,

Did you order the SR4 in early Oct or late Oct?

What's supposed to happen after burn in? Mine is two weeks old and there doesn't appear to be any noticeable difference.

Maybe there is but my human brain can't remember how it sounded out of the box.

Besides loudspeakers physically loosening up I always wondered how much of the perceived change is burn in and how much is our ears adapting.

But we don't want to go ''there'' (again) now do we?

Give it at least three to four weeks, alternating with some down time. I have a piece that's still improving at two months. Also, the Audio Bacon review noted that the power cord used with the SR4, and where it is plugged in, made a big difference. That aside, equipment being sufficient, it really involves one's sense of pitch. That is, to what degree is one's sense of relative pitch absolute, so to speak, independent of "getting used to it." From having been around music from a young age and played classical piano for a number of years growing up, I'm somewhat lucky in that regard, but we all vary, and some have a much better sense than mine.

I'll report back with initial impressions soon.... But I've just moved house so I'd like to get acclimatised with my new room acoustics before swapping components.

That would be the sensible thing to do but after this long wait I'm becoming a bit impatient to get 'stuck in'.

I set my SR4's up at the weekend.  One issue that I had relates to space on my rack.  They are now in my rack, but currently the two SR-4's are stacked one on top of the other.  Does anyone know if this is an issue or not?  In time, I may be able to change things around and have the units side by side.  I am just not sure if it actually matters?  One point to note is that they do not seam to be running too hot, so I do not think cooling is an issue.  As an aside, they look quite nice stacked, so this aspect is definitely not an issue.

Any thoughts?

I have my two SR4 powersupply on 24/7 powering my SOtM sMS-200ultra Neo and tX-USBultra. The SR4 and SOtM:s are placed on four seperate small shelfs on top of eachother behind my rack (built in-wall so the backside is closed) and the SR4 are warm but not to warm.

If I recall right when I measured my SOtM kit they only draw around 0,6A each.

Main system
TAD D1000mk2, TAD M2500mk2, TAD CE-1, Ansuz Mainz 8 C2, Ansuz Darkz D and T2
Tidal Hifi / Qobuz Studio -> Roon ROCK on NUC -> dCS Network bridge -> AES/EBU -> DAC
HD Plex 200W PSU (4 rail for ISP fiber, router, switch and NUC)

Second system
Tidal Hifi / Qobuz Studio -> Devialet Silver Phantom, Devialet Tree
