This may even result in video and audio stuttering or freezing until the process is completed. You could of course assign a lower priority to Quick Par, but then larger downloads such as DVDs and BluRays would take what seems forever to complete. wgscott
I first saw this when "upgrading" from 10.6 to 10.7. However, it is a rare occurence, and OS X, like all unix operating systems, allows you to nice a process (with admin privilidges) to give it higher priority. Spotlight/metadata indexing seems to be the main culprit, but this can be turned off, or at least minimized. In practice, it generally isn't an issue. Link to comment

If it does, it means the CPU or I/O scheduling is incompetent or the audio subsystem is misconfigured, e.g. with far too small buffers. Link to comment

davide256
I've actually only seen audio stuttering (outside of streaming bandwidth issues) with a PC audio card and gaming... resource intensive games where the audio card was slow or the game video had an IRQ conflict with audio Regards, Dave Audio system Link to comment

Jud
Thankfully Windows 10 has a nice reset button for that. The most recent Windows 10 builds are IMO badly broken (I'm running two of them), at least for me, especially in the user permissions area (can't install software, share folders on the local network, change some settings), and it's not fixed by a reset, or the bollixed permissions won't allow a reset. Jud
You need the Pro edition. The Home (or whatever they call it) is useless. That's what I'm running (both installations). I've been on the Fast ring for new builds and up to the past few builds they've been pretty innocuous. But the latest builds have turned out to be more than typically buggy. PITA. It's with a sigh of relief that I boot into Linux on that desktop. One never knows, do one? - Fats Waller The fairest thing we can experience is the mysterious. Mordicai
Im on a MAC doing DSD. Im not aware of problems when I download. But I don't use the computer for anything else when I download. On Play back stuttering is a problem. I upsample everything to DSD256 in JRiver, and unless I increase buffering times to 250 or more I have stuttering. If I open and use safari ,I have stuttering problems. I don't know if using a bigger buffering rate affects SQ, but Im longing for a more powerful CPU. Using Intel I5 right now on a 2014 Macbook Pro I'm most interested in a Mac it is also not clear to me that the data cannot just sit in a buffer until the CPU is ready for it, and thus SQ would not be affected Link to comment

I don't know if using a bigger buffering rate affects SQ It does not. (Assuming you meant buffer size; buffer rate is meaningless.) Link to comment

Then you take your chances because X/Y/Z could take up any amount of resources. Be it CPU/RAM/Disk bound. Best practice is to keep it simple. I often have Amazon Prime Music running on my laptop during the day while I work. Most of the time it's fine but every once in a while it will stutter, pop what have you. Link to comment

Unlike arrogant know-it-alls like yourself, I am now able to REGENERATE the files to their original quality ! I have far better to do than argue with smart arses like yourself, so I will not be going further on this subject in THIS forum. I am however prepared to answer PMs on the subject from those who have no axes to grind. I did have a whole thread prepared on the subject .but given the never ending personal attacks and hostility from certain members, I have decided it isn't the time or place to post it, as yourself and several others would attempt to completely disrupt the thread.
