Join Me At Audio Expo North America 2024 In Chicago

        Audio: Listen to this article.

As many in this community know, I'm a huge fan of Japanese jazz, vintage Three Blind Mice releases from the 1970s, and Tsuyoshi Yamamoto. When EvoSound released a new Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio album titled A Shade of Blue, I said it was "easily my favorite piece of music from 2023." It's now time to share the listening enjoyment by intorducing this recording to everyone in person. I'm hosting a stereo listening session at AXPONA on Saturday, April 13th at 3:00 PM, with EvoSound and Linkwitz Audio.

I'll play a few of my favorite Yamamoto tracks, from long out of print releases, and I'll discuss the new album A Shade of Blue. I can't wait to go over the Shade of Blue tracks, show listeners exactly what I heard and raved about, and have a conversation about music that brings us so much joy. This is one of the best parts about being in the HiFi industry. Talking about music, sharing my favorite music, and meeting like minded music lovers with their own stories to share. I can't wait to see you there!

I live so close, it would be a crime not to go. 😁 Friday night should be a great, intimate concert with local jazz guitarist, Bobby Broom (on bandcamp too 😇 ).

It would be nice for a meet and greet at AXPONA - just a thought...

Well, one year Dr. Waldrep had a surround system with all Bryston - B&W 802 D2's. There were others.

Yeah, a couple years I assisted George (exaSound) as we demoed some very nice 5.1 multichannel music using the exaSound S88 8 channel DAC/streamer, Pass Lab amps and Magnepan speakers.  It was a lot of fun.

I was there for one that used Revel speakers and all Benchmark electronics and Oppo Blu Ray player and DH Labs cabling. Excellent sound. It was at Axpona.

I remember sitting in that room listening to Night at the Opera by Queen in multichannel DVD-A - that is a trippy LP.

Qobuz has that album in 24/192 so I gave it a listen. I was surprised as I found the music way more accessible than I expected based on your description and what I normally listen to. And as you said, the sound is superb. That’s one of the things I like about Qobuz, someone says “I like this” and then I can try it and see if I do as well. I don’t typically stream music, I use Qobuz for exploration and then if I like something, I buy it. This one is on the list. I’m not normally a bass head but I suspect that the opening to Midnight Sugar could really move some air on your system if you wanted it to. I assume you’re going to video your discussion? I certainly hope so as I won’t be able to attend in person.

Are you sure it was 24/192? I swear I can only find 24/96 and wonder if I am looking at the wrong album.

Ah, I went looking for the Queen album... that was my mistake.

Nothing wrong with that - mine was 96/24 BTW - I bought the DVD-A used.

Hoping to bump into peeps. I hope it won't snow this year. It is an easy drive in, for me, until yahoo's get on OUR roads. 🤣

I just drive in, I am in the area though. It is easy and less costly to boot.
