rando
You know that Curtis education paved a bright future when you can get by using this as an album cover. Whatever artistic effect was intended requires being 10' away or you just see pixels and square edges. christopher3393 1 Link to comment
rando
I should note that this is an excellent (studio) recording from their time as 'Ensemble-In-Residence at NPR. Would be interested to see reception, not going break my streak of older discs, new Artemis Quartet Shostakovich release garners. There are multiple others here whose balliwick this more closely aligns with. Link to comment
rando
An album that spawned an interesting and unexpected conversation here on the outright utility and meaning of jawn. You young kids hanging out in clubs picking up all the latest lingo! Realized I'd never heard a single track off this album that wasn't a remix. In fact, an artist approved remix became the de facto version of everything on the album. Disquieting how lifeless the studio versions are in comparison to how much further the same musical elements are turned up in the semi-official techno-rock versions everyone actually listened to. Certainly came to prominence in some indiscriminate East coast location. Hella sick jawn boi... and so on among the less well spoken social elements that lay claim to overusing new words until they lose respectable usage. A handful of years back it was less widely appreciated. Someone closer to ground zero could more accurately comment on how fashionable the term jawn is. For the purpose of our conversation there are no negative connotations, but it is past its sell by date. Interesting very low DR disc someone gave me their promotional copy of. rando
Thought this was interesting when I came across it. Couple weeks later curiosity got the better of me. 1982 German import CD (photo is from LP). @EuroChamp the redhead in back certainly looks bewitching enough she could've parked her broom next to the stage door. rando
The pretty out there selection groans are justified here, mostly. Unlike my previous post of Armenian Lullabies this was aimed at young children being spoonfed versions of lullabies from other countries. A few tracks were stunning accapella (Norway) or perfectly nuanced sweet dreams (Hungary) that were a very enjoyable end to a late night. Soothsayerman 1 Link to comment

rando
Before the subject completely drops. Sexing up classical music for widespread commercial success and the gosh darn kids taking an interest that opens up the complete catalog for them. Let's check in on what Sony has conspired to release recently from modern classical composers. sphinxsix 1 Link to comment

Aspects of which could be said to come through a recording of her playing. For all intents and purposes this is a successful modern update to well established repertoire. She changes nothing by adding life into her performances. What you appear to be contemplating after witnessing the video I posted is confusion. A "Con" leading you into believing a "Fusion" could have the least amount of merit. You'd be fooling yourself by committing to pursuit of something many times removed from even the low standing of derivative works. Simply because nothing had been created. Link to comment

rando
Should have posted that in a new thread. The Flower album was meant to be humorous by offending/titillating advocates of a few musical genres. Any notice of serious musicianship went out the window as soon as that video started playing. Link to comment

rando
@rumpelstiltskin left the site over a similar conversation. My part in it being pointing out the lack of conflict free, or at least lacking in heavy dramatic elements tied to life experiences, rap/hip hop. Which was not disputing his ability to see or hear positivity. I suspect other elements on the site played a larger part, but it was unfortunate. Link to comment
