mkrzych
Excellent recommendation. I take it you were not listening to Rudy Van Gelder's 2008 remaster. I ask because TIDAL has two versions of this album, and the one with which they associate the album artwork in your post is the Van Gelder version. Just idle curiosity, as I can of course listen to both versions in TIDAL and make up my own mind! =^) No, I am not listening to RVG, 2014 Bernie Grundman mastering. For RVG I can recommend this one from 2002 - it's rarity of good RVG transfer and mastering: -- Krzysztof Maj http://mkrzych.wordpress.com/ "Music is the highest form of art. mkrzych
Fantastic album from old, good times by ECM and Dave Holland Quintet! Avant-Garde jazz so called, but very "eatable" and very well recorded. mkrzych
My take is much the same and I'm a little surprised that her marketing managers didn't create a medium to generate interest among those on the fence about owning her revisit to this masterwork. I'm sure I'll own it soon when other recordings of interest are few. Resistance is futile and she's an artist I have long admired. Later listening to include Madeleine Peyroux - Secular Hymns First impressions are favorable but I still seem to enjoy her earlier work like " Half The Perfect World" and "Careless Love" more than her later works. I remember how much I enjoyed discovering these albums a decade ago . mkrzych
Fantastic album by these guys. Previous one from Wolfgang not caught me at all, but this one it much, much better with old time Brad playing from his trio albums. Very nice and well recorded as expected from ECM. Recommend you to check it out! 24/88.2 download - legit. mkrzych
Recording quality is not too bad - DR value 9 is about what you can expect nowadays. Haha, no, I do not expect DR9 for such kind of recordings! I expect much better dynamics especially from the non pop record like this from experienced and olders guys like John is. That is music thT deserves the non loudness war and compression treatments. Sorry for that, but I am not buying your suggestion ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -- Krzysztof Maj http://mkrzych.wordpress.com/ "Music is the highest form of art. It is also the most noble. mkrzych
That was my last nite set of listening - all from ECM new releases. All very good, but I like Tord and Trygve. Barre is unique, not for everyone, but as it goes for the single double bass solo it's drawing and captivating - that's big success for such solo album. I like also Invisible Paths, very well played as the Temporary Kings - you see, hard to choose one ;-) Musicophile 1 -- Krzysztof Maj http://mkrzych.wordpress.com/ "Music is the highest form of art. mkrzych
Hello, I've just found these two amazing albums last time and highly recommend them for jazzheads. They are modern in the sense of the jazz streamline, but not overplayed. I like both a lot and highly recommend you to listen to them. Samuel Blaser is available in Redbook, but Formanek you can find it in 24/96 legit download from HDTracks and Highresaudio.com. There is one issue with Formanek high resolution offer that don't contain PDF file with liner notes (arghh!!!), but Redbook version on Bandcamp do. This story I will describe in the "Music Analysis - Objective & Subjective" forum here. Musicophile 1 -- Krzysztof Maj http://mkrzych.wordpress.com/ "Music is the highest form of art. Highly recommend. I am not fan of his solo albums, but as a kid I've been listening to Dire Straits pretty much all the time. Now, this album from the musical perspective is the statement of the men who achieved a lot and now playing because he likes it. Very matured record, very matured guy and solid album - yes, laid back, but what do you expect from the men who spent whole life playing and now enjoying his age? mkrzych
Two new releases - so different. Manu is kinda summer, laid back, aka Mr. Fingers, house/jazz-fusion album. Interesting approach and well played - you will listen to it over and over again. Second one - Ralph is moder/conteporary jazz with Ravi Coltrane. Not as much easy listen as the prior one, but also very good and still growing on me - you know, it's ECM sound ;-) -- Krzysztof Maj http://mkrzych.wordpress.com/ "Music is the highest form of art. Popular Post mkrzych
Fantastic compilation and sound IMHO. What a pleasure listening to true genius in chronological releases of the songs. One drawback, downloads don't contain booklets, which it unacceptable for me! The lyricism and plot of Coltrane's sax is just awesome, there is also spark when needed, no harsh, just singing over the sax! I am lost.... Popular Post mkrzych
I would like to point out that recently ECM Records did some stunning transfers from the original analog tapes to digital. Most of them are first time available on digital ever and I pulled the trigger buying these two below. Both are legit, very good sounding in 24/96 and I think landmarks of ECM catalogue!
