Sounds Great - inexpensive, no fancy computer or power supplies

The problem with the hobby is that you need 3 computers, one for the player, one for the streamer, one for the upsampling and you need lots of power for the upsampling computer, and then you need to worry about heat, and if it's not quad dsd or better, then it ain't crap.  You also need highend power supplies for each computer and fancy cables, and then you need to make sure that the different vendors play nicely with each other...then everyone has their own opinion, and then when  you spend money and time to try to make it sound marginally better, you are unimpressed, and have to start all over again.  It's kind of tiring....it will be nice once a dac can do what it is supposed to do...to isolate noise and to accurately reproduce an analog signal that was previously digitized....it seems like it wasn't that long ago that if it wasn't an r2r dac it wasn't crap.

Or... none of that is true. Let your listening decide, not what you read.

Main listening (small home office):

Main setup: Surge protector +>Isol-8 Mini sub Axis Power Strip/Isolation>QuietPC Low Noise Server>Roon (Audiolense DRC)>Stack Audio Link II>Kii Control>Kii Three (on their own electric circuit) >GIK Room Treatments.

Secondary Path: Server with Audiolense RC>RPi4 or analog>Cayin iDAC6 MKII (tube mode) (XLR)>Kii Three BXT

Bedroom: SBTouch to Cambridge Soundworks Desktop Setup.
Living Room/Kitchen: Ropieee (RPi3b+ with touchscreen) + Schiit Modi3E to a pair of Morel Hogtalare.

All absolute statements about audio are false :)

Anyway, I am going to cancel roon trial, because i don't want to pay a subscription...it was a nice interface, but going to try volumio for awhile...anyone know if you can use hqp with volumio?

So it can be done. That thread is already old, there may be an official volumio NAA by now, I can't remember. Look in the volumio interface and see if there is one you can download.

yea, it was refreshing to see nobody believes it on audioscncreview....although i think it is probably somewhere in the middle of the two "extremes"...but it was nice to see other opinions...i feel a lot less frustrated now...thanks inre volumio/hqplayer...i think i am ready for a rest for trying new stuff for awhile, now that i see drastically different opinions, i am a lot more content now.

True. And, no one can fix it. One can fix him/her self. You can not change a movie you're in, you can see it is only a movie and go out of it.

i wish i could and that it would be that easy to get out of this movie...i guess i have to get back into the bible....it's so depressing.

So I read--with some amusement--your foray over at ASR. You did not get very far there, though there were plenty of people happy to jump out and call you a fool for even asking the questions.

ASR, Audio Sci-Fi Review?  So now we have HiFi, Objective-Fi and Sci-Fi 🤣

You might need an electron microscope to find the science over at Audio Sci-Fi ...🙄

No you could go over to WhatsBestForum and get the other extreme. There they will talk about and spend $$$ on things that will make your head spin.

I have been visiting lately and overall I find them a happy friendly bunch with varied opinions just like here. There is acknowledgement of WBF Wallets Big Forum vs Whats Best Forum for sure. I do like to hear about What's best (subjective as that is) and that may or may not include money no object. Whatever one's budget i think you still can be value driven. I realize this hits raw nerves for some, especially if they feel it is extravagant or unnecessary (for them). For me, there are many things I cannot afford but still admire and consider of value and worth.

I did make the comment that if i had bottomless pockets, that i would reach further over to the subjective side....hell it wouldn't even have to sound good if it looked good.

I actually auditioned same speaker system in La Jolla....best I have heard, and they were auditioning it using vinyl...i think the speakers were like $300K by themselves.
