Le Concombre Masqué
is there a software way to decode Dolby Atmos and/or DTS to yield files I could directly feed HQP with (its matrix pipeline taking care of the 2.0 funnelling) Link to comment

Anyway suffice to say, get the Official Blueray is the best for sound. Shame they don't sell it separately as its all I want personally but you have to buy the super deluxe package to get it. I am disappointed at this - I would have thought the 24/96 download (for me, from Qobuz) would be the same as the stereo content available on the Blu-Ray, but it's not. Comparison of "Come Together" - left is the download from Qobuz, right is ripped from the Blu-Ray: Jud 1 John Walker - IT Executive Headphone - SonicTransporter i9 running Roon Server > Netgear Orbi > Blue Jeans Cable Ethernet > mRendu Roon endpoint > Topping D90 > Topping A90d > Dan Clark Expanse / HiFiMan H6SE v2 / HiFiman Arya Stealth Home Theater / Music -SonicTransporter i9 running Roon Server > Netgear Orbi > Blue Jeans Cable HDMI > Denon X3700h > Anthem Amp for front channels > Revel F208-based 5.2.4 Atmos speaker system Link to comment

Comparison of "Come Together" - left is the download from Qobuz, right is ripped from the Blu-Ray: It’s obvious from the first few seconds of listening-you don’t need the software to tell the difference. As per the discussion above, it is sort of bewildering why they think it’s a good idea to have the 24/96 streaming version pumped up like the MP3 and the CD. I’d certainly like to hear the rationale. barrows and Jud 1 1 Main listening (small home office): Main setup: Surge protector +>Isol-8 Mini sub Axis Power Strip/Isolation>QuietPC Low Noise Server>Roon (Audiolense DRC)>Stack Audio Link II>Kii Control>Kii Three (on their own electric circuit) >GIK Room Treatments. I actually like the cymbal sound - I think it sounds more like the real thing than previous versions. As far as negatives: like most good digital remasters of tape, it adds space between the instruments, a blacker background, and makes it easier to hear detail. But: it also loses a little of that "denseness" that analog has so that it sounds a bit less "together". Not enough to be distracting or bothersome, but it's noticeable. I think it leads to a subjective perception of a little less power or "thrust" on some of the sections, especially in the medley on side two. I'll have to play with converting it to DSD or running it through my "Abbey Road Vinyl" software simulator just to see how it sounds. Maybe a bit more like tape, hopefully without losing the detail, etc. But don't get me wrong, I really like it. Actually, now that I have the BR rip I take back any criticism. Sounds great, really like it. Who has listened to it in multichannel? I'd be curious to read your thoughts. The link shows that the new, remastered Abbey Road has returned to number two on the top 200 chart 50 years after it originally did so upon initial release! JC Le Concombre Masqué 1 Link to comment
