It is baffling me why others can get 4.15x or 4.16x to do DSD512 EC7v2 and I can't. Using 4.15x or 4.16x music stutters constantly.  Switch to 4.143 and music plays just fine up to 96K source rates and if 2s filters then 192K source.  Here's some shots of task manager on 3 versions, it is strange how the work load is distributed to me.  In all 3 shots below Multicore DSP, Cuda offload are both checked in HQP settings.  Win 11 pro, RTX3060GPU, HQP desktop.

Here's a shot of task manager and hwinfo64 with HQPlayer 4.14-3, playing DSD512 w EC5v2 and Gauss XLA, Workload very evenly distributed and music plays perfectly all night long.  EC7 is about the same workload dist. DSP_ACCELERATION=0 is set.

Here's the same but with HQPlayer 4.16.2, DSD512, EC7v2, gauss L.  Workload mainly in 4 cores only, all pushed close to 100% and constant stuttering.  Again DSP_ACCELERATION=0 is set.  All bios settings identical to above.

It confuses me why in 4.162 DSD512 is only distributed to 4 cores and in 4.143 is distributed over many more cores.  All settings between the 2 are identical in bios and HQP settings, except gauss L vs. XLA.

Here's my DSP_ACCELERATION=0 set up, I think it is correct.  I put it in both areas just in case, although I think only the top one, user account is needed.

It is pretty normal since you have filters on the GPU. I see your GPU is around 9%.

But as baseline check, I'd recommend to boot up the "x64amd" HQPlayer OS image and see if it works there. It rules out OS configuration related things as it is entire thing as one package that is the same for everyone. And it won't require installation or touching your existing setup.

No, this is wrong, variable should be "DSP_ACCELERATION" and value should be "0".

Interesting - I have exactly the same or at least very similar memory modules, but can only get to 22.3 GB/sec…

Do I assume correctly that the mainboard (Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite DDR4) is resposible for this?

Hi,

Seems I have the same cache bandwidth limitations as you have with my Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4 mobo.

Have you found a solution apart from replacing the motherboard ?

No. As Miska recommended (I think, if I understood correctly), I have just left it as it is - with latest HQP OS in amd version I can play DSD512 from all rates with ASDM5ECv2 and poly-sinc-ex2, that's all I need for now 😉

How are you guys downloading different versions (4.14, 4.15, 4.16) of HQP? Im running HQPd 4.15.2 IIRC and I have P-cores 0 and 7 doing most of the heavy lifting which is causing them to max out on DSD512 with the filter and modulator I’m running. The other 6 P-cores are at 50% I believe.

Hi Guys,

Im running a Intel i7-10700K which has TDP of 125w combined with a ASUS MAXIMUS Hero XIII Z590 and a TAIKO ATX, I'm very interesting on the possibility of upgrading this, not precisely to a higher number or cores or much more power but for a better synergy and therefore better SQ for AudioLinux / HQP embedded with MOBO / CPU.

Any suggestions about these COMBOS or something else ?:

1.- AMD Ryzen 7 5700G / MOBO ??

….could this perform better than my current set ?

2.- Intel Xeon Silver 4210 CPU/s / Asus WS C621E Sage motherboard

….Would it worth the more $$$ ?

I don't think this would be much different.

Not really suitable for HQPlayer purposes. It has very limited core performance / clock rates.

I’m finishing the build of my new Windows HQPLAYER server and want to ask Miska and the group: Is there any difference between Windows 11 Pro and Windows 10 Pro in terms of efficiency, latency and overall performance as it pertains to HQPLAYER Desktop 4.17? I will use Ultimate Performance mode in either case but I’m wondering if there are any benefits to be derived from Windows 11 Pro. Thanks

I have only one Win11 machine (i9-10900K). But honestly I have not noticed any difference between the two apart from the obvious GUI changes.

Microsoft is trying to push Win 11 on my development laptop (Ryzen 9 5900HS + RTX3060), so it will be interesting to see if it makes a difference there. But I will need to make an image backup of the SSD first in case the upgrade screws up my development environment...

Hi Jussi, I just re-installed everything into two machines, but can't get HQPlayer going on my new i9-12900...

(a) a dedicated NUC i5-7260U (Linux) hosts Roon Core v1.8

(b) a i9-12900 DDR5 32Gb (Win11) hosts Roon Remote v1.8 and HQPlayer 4 Desktop

...signals sent via ethernet to >> opticalRendu (bridge) and >> Holo May (DAC)

Roon sees the HQP (after I added and enabled HQPlayer). But I can play?

I also can't load music nor see files in HQP. Am I supposed to change any other settings on HQP?

what's your SFP module?

Using Spectrum Multimode 62.5/125µm OM1 1G/10G Duplex LC to LC Fiber Optic.

Here's the chain:

Wifi >> Google Nest WIFi Router >> LAN >> Trendnet Gigabit Switch with TP-Link SFP Module (supplied by SGC) >> OM1 Fibre Optic >> opticalRendu >> USB >> Holo May

This worked well directly with Roon... but not sure how to add in HQP.

did you switch opticalRendu to mode 4 (NAA)

I did not! Just tried to do so, but I'm now having problems accessing my opticalRendu settings. Very weird. I'm now playing songs via Roon (without HQP) to the oR... no problems. But I can't Manage my oR. OK, I'll contact SGC/AGillis separately on this.

(I'm also using oR Roon version. Not sure now if I can activate mode 4. Darn.)

Can you access oR via http://www.sonicorbiter.com?

Yes I could see my oR on sonicorbiter (and can also play music on it)... but cannot "Manage" it as its IP address was not recognised. Must be a network problem. After re-booting everything, it is now visible and ok to "Manage".

But I figured out my problem now... I use the "oR Roon" version which has no option for HQPlayer.

In trying to save $500, I bought the wrong oR version! Darn!!!:(

I can't answer to efficiency or latency as the switch for me was flawless and zero issues encountered, but I thought Win 11 sounded much better then win 10.  Now  I am running ubuntu which may be better then win 11.

Based on your feedback I upgraded to Windows 11. The one thing that I noticed right of is that my CPU is idling 5 degrees C warmer. On Windows 10 Pro my 12900KF CPU idled at 27.7 degrees C, while with Windows 11 Pro my CPU idle temperature is up to 34 to 35 degrees C with the same settings. Has anyone else experienced an increase in CPU temperature with Windows 11 Pro? Are there any adjustments or tweaks that can be done on Win 11 Pro to bring the idle CPU temperature down?

When idle my temps were 26-27 with either windows 10 or 11.  Under heavy HQP load the temps in 11 went higher, to the point I saw 80 ave CPU package temp in hwinfo64.  So yesterday I moved everything from my HTPC case to a PC mid tower with water cooling and as expected load temps dropped by almost 25 degrees, idling temps by only 1 degree or so.  I used a Noctura NH-9D air cooler in the HTPC case with 2 fans, and 5 case fans, 3 input and 2 exhaust.  So plenty of air moving in the case.

Do you have any overclock on your 12900KF?  At first I just let the MB do its thing by selection profile XMP1 and this created an OC but CPU voltage, even at idle was near 1.44V, yikes.  So I manually set each core's OC limit, I think 4 cores at 5KHz, 2 cores at 4.9Khz and 2 cores at 4,7 KHz (11900K), this brought idling voltages down to near 1.30 and heavy load voltages to 1.415.  Yet even with this OC my heavy load CPU temps soared to up to the 80 I mentioned above.  In ubuntu with Jessi's image (so you can play 1024) the temps under load do seem lower then win 11.  Hard to be 100% certain because I have yet to find a real time temp monitor for ubuntu unlike windows and HWinfo64.

Hi all, not sure why my HQP stalls. It's installed in an i9-12900 32Gb DDR5 Ram (but without a GPU).

I can play directly from HQP or Roon. With both however, my songs stall when I tried PCM 1.536 on poly-sinc-ext3 (or ext2) 🙁 This can't be due to "lack of computing power", right? Am I missing some settings?

Another issue... When I select PCM 1.024, they play okay, but my Holo May shows the output as only 768k. Odd.

DSD1024 is dead in the water too.

(I've changed my opticalRendu. Signal chain now... Synology NAS for music files > Roon Rock on NUC > HQP on i9-12900 > opticalRendu > connected via fibreoptic to SFP switch > connected via LAN to Google Nest. HQP is a trial version for now... Wanna make sure it works!)

What firmware does your dac have?  If it is older then it needs 30.12 firmware to do DSD1024 and PCM 1.4/1.5.  (that applies to the older USB module not the newest 2.1 version)  If you have windows OS open the holo control panel and I think it is the 4th tab that shows firmware version, most dacs ship with 30.14.

I've the Holo Audio Driver 5.27, which is supposedly the latest driver? (But my DAC is connected to the opticalRendu, not connected to my PC). Do you mean the firmware in the DAC? How do I see that? By connecting my DAC to the PC via USB? Bought my Holo May ~Oct 2021... I'm assuming it would have the latest firmware.

Why would the i9-12900 stall for PCM 1.536?
