    Streaming Services Through HQPlayer Natively

I never thought I'd see the day. HQPlayer now offers native support for streaming music from Qobuz and HIGHRESAUDIO STREAMING. Wait, what!? Yes, Jussi Laako has added streaming services through the HQPlayer interface and it's glorious. Many in this community already discovered Jussi's holiday gift to music lovers worldwide, but incase you missed the full-court press by Jussi's PR team, marketing manager, and publicist, only kidding, I thought I'd write about it and how to enable it.

The information below is mostly available in the HQPlayer "really brief quick start guide" that nobody reads. OK, six of you guys have read it and the rest have no clue it even exists or where to find it. That's not a knock on anyone, I count myself in that group much of the time.

I've added some screenshots and a bit of information below.

    Requirements:

    1. HQPlayer 4 Client version 4.15 or higher, and one of the following

2a. HQPlayer 4 Desktop version 4.15 or higher, or
    2b. HQPlayer Embedded version 4.28

The HQPlayer website lists this streaming support under only the Desktop version, but it also work with the embedded version. The key is the Desktop Client software. This can run on any machine and doesn't require a separate Desktop license to connect to HQP Embedded.

Enabling Qobuz in HQPlayer is very easy. Make sure either HQP Desktop of Embedded is up and running on any computer on your network. Open the HQPlayer 4 Client that's included with the HQPlayer Desktop application download. GO to the Album View and click the dropdown arrow to display Qobuz. If you can't find album view, look on the edge of the window for options like Play View, Transport View, Album View. Click through them and you'll find what you need.

    HQPlayer Select Qobuz.jpg

Selecting Qobuz bring up this screen where you login.

    HQPlayer Qobuz Login.jpg

After login you'll see this success screen. Click the Back button in blue.

    HQPlayer Qobuz Login Success.jpg

You'll be presented with your Qobuz favorited albums by default. As seen here.

    HQPlayer Qobuz Initial Screen.jpg

Clicking the right hand dropdown you can see the Qobuz options.

    HQPlayer Qobuz Interface Dropdown Selection.jpg

One option that isn't in that list is search. To search Qobuz from within HQPlayer, I selected My Favorite Albums, then put my cursor in that box immediately after the word Albums. Then I deleted the text and entered my own search criteria. Here you can see my search for Neil young.

I'd love if there was an option to select search that cleared the search box automatically, but I can live with this for now.

    HQPlayer Qobuz Search.jpg

Here's a screenshot of playing an album from Qobuz to my HQPlayer Embedded server. It's really nice and full of more information that I expected.

    HQPlayer Embedded Qobuz.jpg

Here's a screenshot of my HQPlayer Desktop version, while streaming a different album from Qobuz. Nothing special, but I want to show it so people can see. More information is available here than when streaming from Qobuz to HQP through Roon.

That's it for this glorious holiday gift from @Miska. I know many people who can now use HQPlayer as their sole user interface for playing music. It's pretty cool to have this as an option. Options are good.

Thanks for the quick reply AD.

Can't get it working. I have desktop version open on my Win10PC and client open on my MacBook Pro but I see no Qobuz or even connection to my WinPC.

I have the allow network connection ticked on the Win 10 PC.

Apologies but I am very new to HQP4 but would see this additional function as a definite reason to purchase.

    ok.

try on the same computer first, and if possible add one album to the "library" for HQP as that seems to be required to get it working.

Does that happen every single time?

No it’s random! Sometimes it will play two or three tracks, never have I been able to play a complete album all the way through.

i have the basics working, but I am stuck in a couple of places.  I have had teething problems on Windows 11 and ARM Mac wih the desktop app.  I am reporting issues directly.

I am using the Raspberry Pi image of embedded player.  I have been digging around and want to start an FAQ to save others time.

I got the Pi2AES working with help from SABF forum, edit the config.txt

    1.  What is the format for adding a NAS share. I cannot seem to make it connect.  //ip/My Share never mounts.

    2.  What  disk format does a LOCAL USB drive need?

    3.  What is the trick to enable Root SSH without a keyboard and mouse on the Pi.?

    i will have library questions

I think that there is some room for tweaking the PI version for even better SQ.

What is really interesting to me is that we can get the compute down to a single Raspberry Pi in the Music system.  What I am hoping is that by having the music stored on the Pi I can improve SQ too!

I feel like I am driving down a bumpy side road to reach the nirvana of sound.

I wish I could help you with these.

I actually haven't been able to get a SMB share to mount in embedded, I need to use an internal drive.
I think EXT4 is best, as that's a native Linux format

That I have no idea about, I know how to do it with a monitor and keyboard only.

Perhaps implementing openhome / upnp like the embedded would be easier…. Would be a good feature in the desktop version as well.

For anyone struggling to get Qobuz working through HQP, here is what I had to do.  At first nothing would show up under the Album view drop down.  I never added folders to a Library

    1. As Chris and others mentioned, make sure you have Desktop running.

    2. Go to File -> Library...

    3. Select Scan... and pick any folder that has some music to create a library.  Adding more content, for example the parent directory of your music content, will take a lot more time to scan.  If you want to get quick to check out Qobuz just scan a small folder.

    4. Once the scan has completed click OK.  You can minimize Desktop if you want.

    5. Open HQP Client.  Under Play View -> Upper left drop down, select localhost

    6. Click Album view on the left of the app

    7. In the upper left drop down you should now see Qobuz.  Select it and login.

    8. Upsample your streamed content.  I'm stoked about this.

    Will try with Embedded next.

I'm going to go out of a limb here and say that my expectations were that HQPlayer direct will sound SOOOOO MUCCCHH BETTERRRR than Roon+Hqp

But after listening I feel it sounds either the same or a "small preference" towards Roon+Hqp

Go figure, I must have no ears at all :)

Cheers everybody, enjoy the music and the season

Have to agree here, small difference in sound quality. Great effort from Jussi to get this integrated. It needs some work to get to the level of Roon integration.

Wow this a killer feature! Would love to try this out but I'm not seeing Qobuz available in the dropdown. I'm running 4.15.1 HQplayer Desktop and Client on OSX.

Not in that dropdown. Swipe to right or click Album View on left side of the Client window. Point 6 from the above Johnseyes post. Or look at pictures of the article you are commenting.
