JPLAY for iOS Is Now Available

Hi Guys, just a quick update. The UPnP control point app I've been using for seemingly ever, is now available in the App Store! I love this app and vow to never install mconnect on my iPhone or iPad again :~)

I know @Marcin_gps and his team have been working to perfect the app for a long time. I'me very happy to see this come to fruition.

The app is well worth the $49.99 /yr price.

    Much more to come.

    App website - https://jplay.app

    App Store link - https://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=1608773457

Hi @Marcin_gps How do I resolve my multi disc issue. This album has disc 1 and disc 2. Both appear as one.

I am curious as well as I also have this issue.

Just bought the App and love it. With the latest update and firmware update I got from Peter for the Lumin U1 it’s working great.

one question. I can find anywhere to clear out the current query?

    Never mind, I found it.

I just read the first 4 pages of this thread from early December and then installed the app on the 14-day trial.

In my specific instance, everything went quite soothly in finding all of my network endpoints (Sonore microRendu, Volumio Primo, 2x Raspberry Pi 4B/Moode 8.2.4, and WiiM Pro), as well as my JRMC server, an Id Pi which also runs on an RPi 4B.

As others have already noted/posted, the speed with JPLAY indexes the library and thumb-nails the album covers for browsing is really very impressive.

Also no problems whatsoever with the Qobuz integration on my side, that too was fast and painless, and is working well for me.

While I've not had any huge problems with (the now infamous?) mconnect, I've always rather preferred to use BubbleUPnP on Android, though I understand thats not an option for those married to iOS.

While I've not really been too impressed with the LUMIN app itself, I find it interesting that the essentially similar looking Linn app for iOS does not present me with those same issues.

As Chris said, options are good, the more good options the better, and I hope that this JPLAY app for iOS continues to mature and improve.

From my perspective as an initial release this is really quite good/polished, and not the buggy mess that many predecessors have been upon their initial release. I'll pay for JPLAY and support the cause, as I've fairly well given up on Audirvana at this point and simply don't appreciate what I perceive as a lack of support on their forum, where  it seems many questions are either arbitrarily ignored, or responded to in a cryptic unhelpful way that goes in circles and attempts to deflect more than anything else.

My 2 cents, and I think a lot of the initial criticism in this thread is simply a reflection of folks not really wanting to pay for anything, and $49/yr. for an app is not exactly what I'd call cheap.

I just updated. I much prefer the light theme to the dark one, so thanks for that.

That said, I continue to have every problem I had before and a new one:

(1).  Still not discovering LMS and JRiver DLNA servers. Other ios and Android controllers aren’t having this issue.

(2).  Still stalls or crashes when server is removed.

(3).  New problem with a stall at 99% on initial import.  Twice, this stall lasted ten or fifteen minutes before I aborted. The file itself seems to have imported.

(4).  Still crashing out app completely (reversion to desktop) with update scan.

(5).  Same problem as @The Computer Audiophile and @AudioDoctorwith multidisciplinary sets.   This Bitches Brew version’s metadata has the titles “Bitches Brew (Disc 1)” and “Bitches Brew (Disc 2) and each disc is its own folder under “Miles Davis” on storage NAS.  JPlay has merged the volumes.3ADD34CC-0F58-4EFE-82BE-6AF65526E2D5.thumb.png.f78282b920a8bbdf12270228c68ad006.png

Note, however, that this merger occurs only with 16-44 files. Higher resolution volumes, both DSD and PCM, properly display multiple disc sets as separate volumes.  Note the two DSD versions in the screenshot.

(6).  When using the search function, I routinely have to wait for the display to mirror my keystrokes, especially after a space.  The lag can be ten seconds or more. It’s annoying because it slows things unnecessarily. I don’t experience this issue with any other iOS app and, specifically, with any DLNA controller app.

Because I have reported these issues, sent numerous screenshots, and uploaded numerous files to JPlay, I am disappointed to find myself exactly almost where I was before the revision.  Apparently, however, most of these issues are unique to me or no big deal to others, judging from the positive feedback I am seeing in these comments.

The 99% issue will resolve itself if you let it finish.  See my posts above.

My searches on a 14TB library are instant.

Minim 2.2 on QNAP is what I’m using for server.

@Mike Rubin I was able to reproduce the slow search issue. It’s dependent on the combination of what location and field you’re searching.

As a test, try searching your library for an album rather than All.

In my case, the songs are numbered sequentially despite the tags being correct, being in different folders, etc...

So I learned something just now. It looks like the secret to doing this is in the file name. I do not know why.

edit: Also, I need to re-rip some of this.

Also, I’ve found selecting My Library much faster than selecting Minim.

I haven’t found this screen.  I note that, when at this My Library screen, there are no artists listed, as I don’t use “favorites”:

If I use the artist listing under Local Network, I get that “typing outraces mirroring” thing sometimes.  But, yes, the lag is most apparent when I use the general search bar at the top of each screen.

I now have another issue.  When I use HQPlayer Embedded as the renderer rather than the MPD/DLNA on the Sonore Sig Rendu, I get an error message: “Error sending action to renderer.”  I don’t have trouble playing either with any JRiver controller app or HQPD Control. I don’t get it.

Quoting myself here. Either this is not the secret, or one of the two of Minimserver or JPLAY isn't catching my edits to my Charles Mingus album.

I suspect the problem starts with MinimServer itself.  The unloved MConnect manages to display the albums in a weird hybrid way, both merged and unmerged.

Here is how it displays the MinimServer data.  The first tier view mirrors JPlay in failing to disclose that Bitches Brew is two discs.

    8A8A678A-F3A5-4106-95DF-2CFFF5D47D86.thumb.png.56897d7493c884cfa3d9957a6d3f65d6.png

Clicking on a merged album gives the “hybrid,” a listing of the unmerged two folders followed by the merged contents, a la JPlay.

Clicking on the folder for each disc brings up the unmerged data for each.

I don’t envy Marcin the task of sorting this out.

In contrast, JRMC and Audirvāna have no issue with keeping the discs separated.

None of these apps is perfect, but the last two remind us that it is possible to display this information in a useful way.

My next idea is that I need to get the paid version of Minimserver so I can modify what it's indexing and how, if that's even possible. However, not knowing what or why would make that a goose chase as well.

@Mike Rubin You wrote that Logitech Media Server is not discovered by JPLAY iOS. It's very strange as it is OK now from my part with latest version, I can see it.

I suppose you have enabled UPnP media interface plugin in LMS.

Hi concerning Minimserver I've noticed for a long time yet that we have to tag multiple album like that, for example:

"Album title - Disc 1" instead of "Album title (Disc 1)".

Result I have no problem in Jplay iOS with multiple albums.

Thank you.  This makes MinimServer a bad choice for me. I have hundreds of multi-volume albums.  I don’t want to retag them all.

Yes, I have. LMS is visible in my other iOS and Android controllers.

I found I can play a single disc from a multi-volume set by using Folder View and drilling down a couple of levels.

    @Mike Rubin

It works in most cases, but it seems that there is more to it. It seems that you have albums in separated folders and minimserver is returning these as separated albums. I will look into it.

HQPlayer Embedded probem, can you please check the Force Stop Before play option give it another try?

No artist in MyArtists section is because sync did not finish. In this version the last step(99% screen) takes long, I will improve this in the next version.

Related to search taking too long, I will check it. Searching through 'My Library' is faster, because this the app's database directly on the mobile device.

    Thanks for the feedback!

    Best regards,
    Marcin
