  1. From PS Audio website. "Ted Smith has done it again. A major breakthrough in the art of digital audio. Over this weekend we have been beta testing our newest operating system for our DirectStream DAC, Snowmass, and the reviews are flooding in: https://www.psaudio.com/pauls-posts/listening-is-scary/#comment-94814
  2. Hi Guys, I am in a little of indecision here, These are the facts, I am the proud owner of a nice silver Bryston BDA-3 DAC, I was using it with a Microrendu, well I decided to start upgrading and it is getting messy, I like my shelves to look nice and also The secret is on simplicity, There are so many parts on a Ultrarendu or sMS-200ultra set up, for example you need an ultrarendu, then a Nice PS then you need a nice Switch then nice Cat7 cables then a NAS and the list keep growing you also need a PC Like the I5 then the itch continues and now you want a Linear PS for the PC and you end up with a bunch of small boxes and wires in your rack. I started evaluating other alternative and a dealer is willing to make a trade of my stuff for a new PS Audio Direct stream dac with the bridge 2 that will make everything way more simple (DAC, NAS and a Switch) but I would like to hear if anyone here have had experience that DAC. I like the Natural/Neutral sound of the BDA-3 but I have no Idea of the sound of the Direct stream DAC. I hope someone can give me some feedback. Best, Eric
  3. I am at the point where DAC and Server are the most important things to upgrade up to the same level of my Preamp, amp and speakers, i have just tried the Bricasti M5 which worked as a streamer from my MacMini, although the sound improved it was just a notch, at the same time the M5 arrived also a pair of Tellurium Ultra Black XLR's which made the bigger improvement over the M5, go figure, so i returned the M5 cause i don't think 2,000 usd were worth the little extra improvement, the same thing happened when i put a Microrendu more than one year ago, with lesser speakers i never found an improvement over my Mac mini. So now by these findings i am guessing a better DAC would do the upgrade iam looking for and from there perhaps a server/streamer like the Zenith MKII or viceversa My actual server streamer is a Mac mini Server will be a Zenith MKII My actual DAC is the OPPO 205 I am interested on these DACS: Yggy VEGA G2 PS Junior DENAFRIPS Terminator So far price/performance wise, YGGY is the Schiit, but would going an extra 2,000 usd (aprox) over Yggy would worth to find a sound wise improvement with the other DACs mentioned here?
  4. Hello, I would like to become an audiophile as a new hobby. I don’t know that much about amplifiers and speakers at the audiophile level. May humbly ask the more experienced members of the forum for their opinion and recommendations? SETUP: I will be running with the Elac Uni-fi UF5 speakers. As a start, I’ll be your playing from my iPhone from Apple Music to Airport Express:output 3.5 mm Jack or mini tosslink. AMP: I need help choosing an amp: Sprout 100 ? New Version to come out in May. I won’t be using vinyl. NAD D 3020 ? Vidar ? Looking at the specs/price this is impressive. Stellar S300? PS audio claims this is very good. Class A —> Class D. Any experience/recommendations you can share with me will help. Thank you.
  5. Hi folks, I've been shopping around the past couple of months for a DAC for my main speaker system (I'm currently using a Hugo feeding into my Woo Audio 300B tube amp). My budget started out at around $3k, but (surprise, surprise!) it's been creeping up! I was planning to audition the PS Audio Directstream (DirectStream DAC | PS Audio) next week, but when I called my local store to arrange a visit the salesperson there told me they didn't carry it, but that I should consider trying out the Antelope Audio Zodiac Platinum instead, together with the Antelope Atomic Clock (Zodiac Platinum DSD DAC, Audiophile 10M Atomic Clock and Volticus PSU Bundle | Antelope Audio E-Store). I've read a few reviews online about the Antelope at The Ear (Antelope Audio Zodiac Platinum DSD | The Ear) and at Stereophile (Antelope Audio Zodiac Platinum D/A processor–headphone amplifier & Voltikus power supply | Stereophile.com), but I'd really like to know if anyone's had a chance to A/B the Antelope DAC against the PS Audio Directstream. Additionally, since the Antelope DAC can be purchased without the 10M Atomic Clock, I was wondering if anyone here could comment on the necessity of this device. Does having such an (expensive - around 6,000 euros) device make a tangible difference in sound quality? Many thanks in advance for any advice or comments! Art
  6. Hi guys. First time poster, long time lurker. A couple of years ago, I purchase an Olive 06HD. Beautiful piece of equipment that is now currently a brick. Quite bitter, but you live an you learn. Anyway, I'm considering alternatives. I currently have my music collection ripped to flac via J River. I am going to move the collection to a NAS. With that backdrop, I'm considering 3 similar, but different options. 1. Aurender N100H ($2695)+ DAC ($???) - The Aurender has a 2TB hard drive, which I could use for my core collection. But, can also access NAS. Since I use J River, would like to leverage that, unsure how that would work, though I think it is possible. The music app for the aurender seems quite robust, (though I would be using android and I understand the app is still beta there). Additionally, this would require a USB dac. 2. Sonare Signature Renu ($2895, though website says contact them for a deal) + DAC ($???) - Can leverage J River via the NAS. Would require SPDIF or i2s dac. 3. PS Audio Directstream Junior DAC ($3999) - Can leverage J River and NAS. Only piece of equipment needed. Also, I think I would like to leverage tidal in the future, but currently don't. I know a lot depends upon the DAC that accompanies the Aurender and Sonare and I'm currently considering Shiit Yggdrasil and Chord Hugo TT, but am open to other suggestions. Anyway, what are your thoughts on these three approaches, particularly on costs, flexibility, future-proofness, and most importantly, sound quality (again, I understand DAC is key here, but I've given you some thoughts on what I am considering). On dacs, unclear on how important usb, spdif, or i2s connection type is to the equation. thanks, Gary
  7. Just upgraded i HOPE my dac to one of the above ..of the 3 i wont say until i see what people think. The PS Audio is recommended by both TAS and Stereophile..and the Cary has the same distinction with TAS. I will be using mine in stereo mode running it thru my Emotiva XMC1 in Stereo Reference mode in order to maintain a home theater bypass. Looking for comments and or advice on what appears to be great products..

  9. Hi folks, I've now had PS Audio DirectStream DAC for about 4 months, and am enjoying it. However, I've recently noticed that in the absence of any music I can hear a constant soft buzzing from the right channel (speakers/headphones). There is absolutely nothing in the left channel. Only in the right side. 1. If I unplug my speaker cables from my monoblock amps the buzzing disappears: i.e., not in speakers 2. If I unplug the (XLR) interconnects between the DAC and my monoblock amps the buzzing disappears: i.e., not in the amps 3. If I unplug the USB connection between my Mac and the DS the buzzing DOES NOT disappear: i.e., not in Mac... In the DS! 4. If I swap the (XLR) interconnects between the right and the left connectors at the back of the DS the buzzing moves to the other side. So it looks like the buzzing is coming from the RIGHT XLR connector at the back of my DS. It's actually quite annoying as I can hear it up to 1 meter away from my right speaker, and can hear it quite distinctly in the right side of my headphones. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing this buzzing? Thanks very much for any advice! Art I am using a Mac Mini/Macbook, with Uptone JS-2 LPS, Regen, the DirectStream, Woo Audio WA234 Monoblock Amps, with a P10 Powerplant, and Nordost Valhalla2 power cables and XLR interconnects.
  10. I'm currently looking at the Benchmark ADC, Tascam DA-3000 and the PS Audio Analog Phono Converter. I know the Ayre is out there but it's very pricey at around $3K. If anyone could could share their experiences with any of the products I listed above that would be greatly apprecaited. Thanks! Arleigh
