Holy crap. The SQ on this is not just poor, but embarrassing. What sort of professional would allow this to be released? This is a blemish on Erato's record. They usually produce material with good to excellent SQ. This one is so poor, I wonder whether a mistake was made in releasing it. In any event, it does a huge disservice to the artists performing here.

I like the way these musicians really dig into the music and play from a place of understanding and effort.

Some Modernist harp music that defies stereotypes. Virtuoso performance. Also a great test for your system's transient reproduction!

Heartrending and harrowing contemporary opera, with strong vocal performances and a great orchestra, too. Also beautifully recorded for an opera, in ways opera has to be recorded, with clear vocals and a sense of the action on the stage ... and also a real test for my subwoofers during the battle scenes.

This great collection of performances includes the winner of this year's Latin Grammy for best classical contemporary composition, "Sonata Para Guitarra" by Roberto Sierra.

Rest In Peace, Slide Hampton. One of my home town's great jazz voices went silent a few days ago.

I don't know how to express my appreciation for this recording other than to say it offers a comforting, competent, thoughtful presentation. No fireworks, but civilized, feel-good singing and piano playing, and I just like it.

Another outstanding entry in Naive's monumental Vivaldi series, which inexplicably uses shots of fashion models with no connection to the music as cover art, but whatever. The music is fantastic, the singer is perfect for the material, and it's Vivaldi I had never heard before.

 

 

And for the record, that young woman is NOT the singer; see the actual soprano pictured below.
