Finally managed to get a new and sealed copy of this!  Domingo's is one of the very few male voices I love.  Bliss!

George Frideric Handel

On the whole, I think I prefer the version headlined by Kathleen Battle, but Rosemary Joshua sings the role quite winningly, and the recording overall is wonderful.  I'm happy that I now have two beautiful versions of this gorgeous "secular oratorio" by the incomparable Handel.

Richard Strauss

Tod und Verklärung

Neeme Järvi/Scottish National Orchestra

from this 2-CD set:

I love all of Järvi's Strauss recordings!  (and his Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, etc, etc lol!  Even if I later find a version I prefer to his, he has led me to so much musical bliss over the years!)

This is on Spotify, Tidal, and here on youtube, if anyone is interested:

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

Concerto for Violin and Orchestra

Pinchas Zukerman

Zubin Mehta/Israel Philharmonic Orchestra

Live recording from 1984

I had this on a CBS Masterworks cassette tape in high school, then on a CD that somehow disappeared from my collection many years ago.  Finally got a Sony Japan CD via amazon.de today!

Also included are the Tchaikovsky Sérénade mélancolique (Opus 26), and Mélodie (Opus 42 No. 3) that accompanied the concerto on my old CD, plus the Mendelssohn concerto with Bernstein/NY Phil from 1969.

At my desk, so listening to CD4 rather than the Blu-ray, but it sounds sublime!

Ok, I don't own this own. 1:0 for you ;)

It was a wonderful concert, and it's an official recording, not a bootleg, so sound quality is very good.  Never heard of the record label before or since, though!  I special ordered the CD after I heard Leontyne Price in concert in Detroit in 1988, where she performed a similar program.  I met her that night ?

My two-year-old nephew's favorite vocal music recording:  Nina Stemme performing Richard Wagner's Wesendonck-Lieder

He also loved it when I played her recording with piano accompaniment the other day:

Noël sacrebleu!  I posted a Christmas hand bell album last Summer knowing there was no way I could stomach it come December.

I am now officially ushering in the 2018 Christmas Season by playing Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas Is You
