christopher3393
The band is evasive about the source of their name, but I happened across this in an Old Norse poem from the Poetic Edda, which was originally sung. Havamal, translated as "Words of the One-Eyed" is a collection of wisdom sayings attributed to Odin. It includes a section on drinking which includes this verse: The heron of oblivion flies over feasts of ale to steal the wits of those below. In these feathers once did I place myself in thrall, in the halls of Gunnlöð. http://mathisencorollary.blogspot.com/2014/09/the-heron-of-forgetfulness.html sphinxsix 1 Link to comment

Popular Post sphinxsix
It's not only me and @christopher3393 ..there are more people interested and some of them are seriously interested in ..animal music.. The Evolving Animal Orchestra - In Search of What Makes Us Musical What is musicality? Are we the only musical species? What do you need to know in order to be musical? Do birds sing with a melody in mind? Why do animals sing the perfect pitch? Is our musical predisposition unique, like our linguistic ability? Seems that humans aren't the only headbangers in the Universe.. A very good tutorial for those who have no idea what the heck I'm talking about Wishing everybody a nice, jolly Sunday! christopher3393 and Confused 1 1 Link to comment
sphinxsix
From the album 'Endless Vision' by Hossein Alizâdeh & Djivan Gasparyan. Allmusic: Quote This meeting of two musical masters in Tehran in the summer of 2003 was played out in front of an audience of 12,000. Armenian duduk (a cylindrical wooden flute that is often referred to as an Armenian oboe) maestro Djivan Gasparyan and Persian shurangiz (a new Iranian six-string lute) wizard Hossein Alizâdeh were backed on this occasion by Iran's Hamavayan Ensemble, and two other duduk players -- Armen Ghzaryan and Vazgen Markaryan (bass duduk) -- in a program of traditional Persian and Armenian songs. The first selection, "Birds," begins with shurangiz, hand drums, and spare duduk melodies, as two voices -- male and female -- begin to moan and then sing the poetry of Mahmoud Moshref Azad Tehrani, the most famous and controversial of Persian poets (Azad died in 2006). christopher3393 1 Link to comment
