Audirvana Plus 3 for Windows (Official Thread)

Dear all,

 

Thank you for your patience and for your understanding for the delay.

Developping Audirvana Plus for Windows has been almost rewriting all of Audirvana Plus software from scratch. As you know the issue with software development is that the issues, and amount of real work to do is nearly always discovered only when being on it.

And as I'm quite a perfectionnist, I wanted to have a beta at a real beta level to offer you for testing, that is with already some good testing already done. A few days ago, I issued a very first private beta version, and unfortunately, some testers had a crash due to specific Asio drivers. I've then decided to postpone the launch of the public beta version so I could reproduce this issue which is now fixed.

 

And now is the time, after demos at two shows (Munich & Paris), and limited private beta, to open the beta testing to more.

 

You, dear members of the CA Community, are the first I announce you can participate in the beta program by going to Audirvana forum

I'm opening the beta test slowly so to be able to work in timely manner on the early feedbacks.

So to make this opening on a slower pace, you'll have to register on the forum to access the Windows beta section, and get the download link and all the instructions.

One of them being to help me testing playback with a wide range of ASIO drivers.

 

In a few days, I'll announce it to a wider audience.

I've completed the rewrite of the Tracks, Albums & Artists views for getting a huge navigation speed improvement.

You may need to uninstall the current Audirvana Plus before installing it.

Thanks to the feedbacks enjoying the new speed of the UI interface, I've now made it an official release!

So no more need to download the test build. Just relaunch Audirvana Plus to get the update proposal, click on update, and enjoy the smooth, fluid navigation in even a huge library!

Looks like the wrong error message from Windows...

Have you tried again after rebooting?

 

BTW, when you'll restart Audirvana Plus, you'll get the latest update I've just released, that brings:

• Fix in UI when setting a track or album favorite
• Fix when playing in ASIO tracks of different DSD rate

I have a request damien78.. 

 

When I am scrolling through the Artists tab and I click on a particular Artist, it opens the albums for that certain Artist and there are all the albums in view.  If I then click on a particular Album it opens the Album page with all the individual files to play.  If I then click the back button at the top of the page it doesn't go back to the particular Artists Albums that I was just viewing.  The page goes all the way back to the top of the main Artists page.  I now have to scroll all the way the down to the particular Artist I was just interested in and click again to see the Albums.  It would be way more convenient to be able to click the back button and go back to the same particular Artist's albums I was just viewing.... instead of starting all over viewing all the Artists again.

 

I am not sure where this issues lies but it is a big inconvenience.

 

I know that this is a mammoth project to get all the bugs worked out.  Thank you for all your awesome work A+!

Following it, I've now implemented the save scroll position feature so that when going back to a local playlist/local library, it directly scrolls to the position you were before. This will be in the next release.

 

Regarding the specific issue you're mentioning, is it for local library Artists (you start with the Artists page with Library selected)?

I don't have this issue here. It always goes back to the artist's albums...

Artists are sorted using the sort name tag. This is to be able to sort by last name first, to sort without placing all the "the …" at the T letter, …

When such a tag does not exist in the files metadata, the artist name is used for it.

In your case this looks like the sort name in some artists is messed up.

You can see and change it for such artist by opening the metadata editor (tag shape button rightmost of the window), and then open the artist (this also shows the artist albums). You'll see two lines in the metadata editor: artist name, and "sort as" (second line) giving the artist sort name.

@Evo-No-Revo Thank you for this detailed feedback.

I've just released build 1027 that brings saving of scroll position in local library views (albums, artists, tracks). You will want to test this…

 

On the synching too often: where is this Music Level 2 folder located? Does it contain files that change often? Like a temp folder?

Please note the AudirvanaPlusDatabasev2.sqlite file should not be inside such a synched folder, otherwise it'd trigger syncs all the time, as it is written to very often.

Thanks for the feedbacks.

I've reproduced and fixed the warning exception message (fix will be in build 1029). Though I've had reproduced it only when clicking and dragging in the search area of the header bar.

 

16 bit sent as 24bit to the DAC when there is no digital signal processing is simply due to the DAC accepting only 24bit streams.

This makes no audible difference as it is like sending 1.0000000 instead of 1, and the DAC chip internally must figure it is a 16bit signal.

It's a bit scattered now on my forum. I'll assemble it in the coming days.

 

I'm currently completing compatibility with A+ Remote, and VST plugins support is coming next.

Restore is not an option with current settings.

Do you get any error when attempting to start the program.

To make a complete uninstall, have you deleted the contents of the ClickOnce Apps folder (c:\Users\[Your login name]\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0) ? If you have other ClickOnce applications installed, you may want to delete only the subfolders starting with audi. under the two levels of capital letters folders.

And I've just released 1.1 update that brings compatibility with A+ Remote (just updated to 1.8, update rolling out now on the Apple AppStore servers)

1.1 also brings the White colored UI theme (switch is in the General section of the preferences page)

To limit output to 24bit instead of 32bit with an audio device that does both, you can enable the "Limit to 24bit" option in the behind a bridge paragraph (in the audio device section) in the audio settings page

Windows 10, Creators update min (though you'll want the latest for security (MS patches) reasons)

4GB RAM min (though 8GB recommended)

SSD is great

i3 may limit your ambitions in DSD upsampling to high DSD rates

For DACs that do not have volume control, you need the software volume control feature in Audirvana Plus.

It's on my roadmap, just after the VST plugins support that is my current topic...

Do you use WASAPI (so DSD over PCM), or ASIO to play your DSD file ?

Some DACs have an issue with DSD over PCM where they do not their analog output when switching their DAC DSD from/to mode, thus resulting in weird transient noise. So until the DAC manufacturer fixes this, using ASIO helps.
