E-Onkyo streaming catalog to Qobuz?

Recommended Posts

Here's a machine translation of an e-mail I got in Japanese this morning from, e-Onkyo, as I registered there and downloaded a few albums years ago when it was possible:

@David Craffcan you comment and give us a better idea what this means and what music may be available? Will Japanese domestic market releases be available?

* Since this email is an important communication related to the service, it is also sent to customers who have not permission to set up e-mail magazine distribution. Thank you for your understanding.

As you may already know, in October 2021, Qobuz, a French high-quality platform, announced a partnership with e-onkyo music, a Japan high-resolution music distribution site.
We're excited to share some great news for you. The team is excited to announce that our services will evolve and migrate to Qobuz next year.

What does this mean for you?

The combination of e-onkyo music and Qobuz makes it possible to combine the best of both platforms to deliver an even enhanced experience.

Your account and purchase history information will be retained, while the download functionality will be migrated to the new service.

You'll find new music more easily. We're also working on a full range of new features, including an advanced downloader and a high-performance app that lets you play purchased music on the go.

Do you plan to stream it?

As a new service, we are preparing a high-resolution streaming function that allows you to enjoy more than 90 million titles with the highest sound quality. From world-renowned artists to anime, classical, jazz, world music, J-Pop, and cutting-edge genres, you'll find new favorites from a wide range of genres.

Since we are currently in the negotiation stage, we have not decided on a specific start date, but we are preparing for the start of streaming distribution in the second half of FY2023.

We will continue to update the details to e-onkyo music customers. Until the transition to the new service, you will continue to enjoy all e-onkyo music services and the high-resolution music catalog.
We would like to thank you for your understanding and will continue to work hard to meet your expectations for music.

"Our priority is to ensure that we maintain all the qualities and features of e-onkyo music while bringing the technological and editorial expertise of Qobuz to the table." - Georges Fornay, Deputy CEO of Qobuz
"Our priority is to maintain all the quality and functionality of e-onkyo music, while providing rich content from Qobuz's technology and music experts," said Georges Fornay, Deputy CEO of Qobuz.

Without going into detail because I don't have all the information. The acquisition of e-Onkyo will allow Qobuz to open up the Japanese market. We will also take advantage of the buyout to add DSD and DXD to the download catalog (already manage by e-Onkyo) and merge the Qobuz and e-Onkyo catalogs, so J-Pop and Anime will be better present on Qobuz (within the limit of the rights negotiated again with the majors, label etc...)

Exactly what I needed to know. Thanks so much David.

Of course details to be worked out and nothign is ever completed until it's done. The gist of the deal is nice to know.

Will they have better representation of Japanese Jazz and Classical? Or possibly Japanese remasters of pop and Rock?

There's some really good DSD and DXD (re) masters on the Japanese market.
