The Most Sexually Provocative Covers of All Time

Recommended Posts

Sex sells and is one of the best advertising tools, that's undisputable. The history of music albums covers is also the history of selling music using it. Which album covers come first to your mind when you think about it, guys?

I'll start with two - the classic of the genre (a couple of days ago in a local store I saw an LP cover which was a copy of the original version of Sticky Fingers cover which came with an actual functioning zipper)..

..and quite recent one which if I remember correctly has been discussed here on a couple of occasions :)

Let's have some fun :)

Now let's let the cows go back where they belong.. :)

Definitely not only the cover photo but the whole photo session and the album music content itself were an attempt to change DK's image most listeners got used to, some even got bored with. For me the main problem with this (not that bad) album was the impression that during the recording process she wasn't really herself but a 'glad rag doll' in the hands of a producer or someone else who had created the whole concept.

Rumors are that she does not like these photos, and this entire aspect of the business, at all.

IMO just looking at her one can tell she's a woman with a strong personality. Not a good idea to try to make her a 'glad rag doll'.. It probably doesn't have a chance to work :)

I actually disagree that the Melody Gardot cover is sexually suggestive. I don't think that is her intent at all.

I know, I know - her intent was - I will show myself as I really am (nakedness), the cover has nothing to do with sexuality 9_9

Do you really think that if it had nothing to do with sexuality it would have been discussed here on AS 100 times already? B|

While I dont personally find this a turn on, perhaps others do.

Although some sexual associations may be unavoidable, this one has definitely a deeper meaning. It's mostly about one's youth. Their next album was entitled 'Songs of Experience'..

Brooke Candy claims to be pansexual and her image is highly sexualized.

Don't try to check out her music guys, IMO it's a waste of time :)

This one is quite extreme x-D

Something more conventional. Serge and Jane - a couple.

The back cover of that album was even better (until they were forced to change it).

I may be wrong but I think I actually had the version with this inner sleeve:

BTW the cover is yet another work of Hypgnosis - the guys who changed a lot in the world of cover art. I once posted a documentary about them somewhere on AS.

This is something quite exceptional - it's a gag album cover issued in the early 1960's by Carlton Greetings. This cover was never issued with a record, it was intended to by given as a gag gift, possibly having inserted another album inside..

Some more more or less 9_9 sexy vintage stuff.. (and some more male covers to avoid accusations of sexism, maybe even to increase the thread's WAF 9_9 and to signal again its colors-of-the-rainbow-friendliness of course :))

As a straight man who knows practically nothing about the history of the gay liberation, I was really surprised by this one - some sources suggest its issue date was 1967 but some other ones - 1960 (!) :$

Pretty funny IMHO..

Surprised no one added this, original UK Electric Ladyland cover (not chosen by Hendrix):
